Funeralne tradycje polskich emigrantów w XIX-wiecznej Francji. Nekrologi

The article presents ephemera and commemorative prints as important sources for studying the history of the Polish Great Emigration in France between 1831 and 1871, with a special focus on Paris as the centre of the cultural life of the Polish émigrés. Particular attention has been paid to the obituaries, which constitute a unique testimony to the fate of Polish émigrés, their activities and their impact on socio-political life abroad. The author also attempts to reconstruct funeral customs of the Polish diaspora, pointing to the important role of ephemera in preservation and propagation of specific funeral traditions. The analysis of these texts allows for a better understanding of the individual fates of the émigrés as weel as the broader processes of cultivating their national and religious identity abroad.

Artykuł przedstawia druki ulotne i okolicznościowe jako istotne źródła do badania historii polskiej Wielkiej Emigracji we Francji w latach 1831–1871, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem Paryża jako centrum życia emigracyjnego. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono nekrologom, które stanowią unikalne świadectwo losów polskich emigrantów, ich działalności oraz wpływu na życie społeczno-polityczne poza granicami kraju. Artykuł podejmuje również próbę rekonstrukcji obyczaju pogrzebowego wśród polskiej diaspory, wskazując na znaczącą rolę druków ulotnych w zachowaniu i propagowaniu tradycji pogrzebowych. Analiza tych tekstów pozwala na lepsze zrozumienie zarówno indywidualnych losów emigrantów, jak i szerszych procesów pielęgnowania tożsamości narodowej i religijnej na obczyźnie.
