Religious struggles are a situation in a personʼs life when religion ceases to be a resource and becomes a source of stress. Religious struggles cover a wide range of experiences. Some of them are intrapsychic, others are interpersonal or may relate directly to the deity. The research was designed to analyze the relationship between religious struggles, spiritual growth or decline, and to determine the mechanism of this relationship. The moderating role of meaning of life in this relationship was tested. The study was conducted on a group of 234 people (50% women), mostly Roman Catholic religion. The following tools were used in the study: Religious/Spiritual Struggle Scale (RSS), Spiritual Transformation Scale (STS) and the Purpose in Life Test (PIL). The conducted analyses showed that religious struggles are significantly associated only with spiritual decline. No changing role of a meaning of life in the association of religious struggles with spiritual growth and decline.
