La genèse de l’inspiration catéchuménale selon le Directoire général pour la catéchèse de 1997

The General Directory for Catechesis sets forth catechumenate as the inspiring model of all catechesis. In this catechumenal inspiration, catechetical theologians find a pertinent solution for the catechetical domain. A careful reading of the Directory reveals however the ambiguity in the explanation of this notion. On the one hand, catechumenate is presented as a model of all catechesis; on the other hand, there is a distinction between catechumenal type of catechesis and permanent catechesis. To support the idea that the ambiguity of the notion of catechumenal inspiration is due to the disunion of the catechetical conception, which has influenced the drafting of the Directory, this article focuses on the research of the archives of Cardinal José Manuel Estepa, which offer insight into the elaboration process of this document. The article presents a debate on two catechetical conceptions which appear in the elaboration process of the Directory, the cause of their appearance and the reflection of the cardinal Estepa who finally influenced the text of the Directory.

Le Directoire général pour la catéchèse de 1997 présentait déjà à son époque le catéchuménat comme modèle inspirateur de toute catéchèse. Les théologiens-catéchètes en se référant à ce Directoire trouvaient dans l’inspiration catéchuménale une solution suggestive pour le domaine catéchétique. Une lecture attentive du Directoire dévoile cependant une ambiguïté de cette notion. D’un côté le catéchuménat est présenté comme modèle de toute catéchèse, de l’autre on distingue entre la catéchèse d’inspiration catéchuménale et la catéchèse permanente. Pour soutenir que l’ambiguïté de l’inspiration catéchuménale est due à un clivage de la conception catéchétique qui a influencé la rédaction du Directoire, cet article porte sur la recherche des archives du cardinal José Manuel Estepa, qui offrent la vue au processus de l’élaboration de ce document. L’article présente un débat sur deux conceptions catéchétiques qui apparaissent dans le processus de l’élaboration du Directoire, la cause de leur apparition et la réflexion du cardinal qui a finalement influencé le texte du Directoire.
