The phenomenon of sex-tourism has been widely discussed in various papers, however, most of those associate sex-tourism with regions commonly referred as ‘exotic’ from the European perspective: Thailand, the Caribbean or North Africa. Little or no attention is paid to this kind of tourism on local scale. What is more, sex-tourism is often considered as available only for young and well situated people, completely omitting whole social groups like pensioners. The aim of this paper is to take notice on the necessity to redefine sex-tourism and perceive this phenomenon broader than now. It was displayed on the background of the town of Ciechocinek – a popular Polish health resort and spa, often said to be a place, where middle- aged and elderly people seek partners for social or sexual activities. The authors used data collected during two research seasons and attempted to verify this urban legend and make a deep characteristic of Ciechocinek, which offer is closely related to its popular opinion.
