Temat królestwa Bożego, zakorzeniony w Starym Testamencie wskazuje na oryginalność orędzia Jezusa, odnoszącego się do panowania Boga. Jezus głosił bliskie nadejście królestwa Bożego, wykładając jego ideę w przypowieściach kieruje ją ku swojej osobie, ukazując Boga zainteresowanego poszczególnymi ludźmi, rzeczywistością osób, sprawami ich ludzkiego wnętrza. Ten personalistyczny wymiar przedstawia między innymi encyklika Redemptoris missio, w której według Jana Pawła II panowanie Boga jest osobą, osobą Jezusa Chrystusa. Zarówno społeczny jak i jednostkowy, osobowy wymiar Królestwa Bożego skłania do uaktywnienia możliwości drzemiących w osobie i ich konfrontacji z prawdą o Bogu i człowieku.

The fact that the „Kingdom of God” issue is rooted in Old Testament, indicates the originality of the kerygema by Jesus concerning the God’s lordship. Preaching about the imminent arrival of the „Kingdom of God”, Jesus directs this idea towards himself, to show the God’s interest in each human individual – the person’s world and the deepest concerns. For instance, John Paul II addresses this personal dimension in the encyclical letter „Redemptoris missio”, where the God’s lordship means the person – and the person is Jesus Christ. Both social and personal-individual dimensions of the „Kingdom of God” provides inspiration for activating dormant resources and possibilities in a person to be confronted with the truth about God and man

Fasting, although it takes culture specific forms, is known in all world religions. Its psychophysical aspects in both Christian and pre-Christian times are overviewed. The significance of fasting in the Bible is pointed out together with its contemporary forms and uses.
