The toponomastic research has been surveyed on the territory of Łobez and Novogard districts, which are the part of West Pomerania. The Slavic tribes were settled in this area from 6th to 13th centuries, until the German colonisation. The former Slavic settlement of this region is proved by the set of 188 Slavic place-names, nearly 60 of which have been derived by the Slavic suffix *-ov-. This suffix was used for the derivation of both possessive and topographic names. By 1945, the number of German place-names was nearly three times higher than the number of Slavic toponyms.

The article presents the percentage of the so-called relative names in the post-war toponymy of West Pomerania, officially established after 1945 by the Commission for Establishing Names of Localities and Physiographic Objects. The issue in question is discussed on the basis of the toponymic material of the post-war administrative district of Łobez, which was one of the twelve districts of the Szczecin province. Only less than six percent of all geographic names of the given region are formed by relative names or detoponymic names.
