Since the independent Czechoslovak state had been established, the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague presented intellectual centre of high importance. Its fellows were also active in the politics and in the diplomatic services. Author’s aim was to show the role of the Polish culture and humanities in the foreign relations and in the everyday life of the Faculty that disposed of the fi rst Chair of Polish language and literature in the country or of the Chair of the History of Eastern Europe and Balkan Peninsula. The text describes the offi cial contacts of the Faculty with Polish university milieu as well as the inviting of visiting professors and the situation in the fi eld of Slavic studies, historiography and oriental studies.
W niniejszej edycji zamieszczono listy polskiego historyka Feliksa Konecznego i jego czeskiego kolegi Jaroslava Bidlo z lat 1896–1935 (30 listów). Korespondencja dotyczy przede wszystkim spraw naukowych związanych z zainteresowaniami badawczymi obu uczonych. Ponadto przewijają się tematy dotyczące politycznych i kulturalnych stosunków polsko-czeskich. Znajomość pomiędzy uczonymi została zawarta jeszcze w XIX wieku, podczas studiów Bidla na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim. Listy są przechowywane w Bibliotece Narodowej w Warszawie oraz w Instytucie Masaryka – Archiwum Akademii Nauk Republiki Czeskiej w Pradze.

The present publication contains an exchange of thirty letters between the Polish historian Feliks Koneczny and his Czech friend Jaroslav Bidlo written in the period 1896–1935. Their correspondence primarily concerns issues connected with the research interests of both scholars. It also touches on the subject of Polish-Bohemian political and cultural relations. Their acquaintance dated back to the nineteenth century, when Bidlo studied at the Jagiellonian University. The letters are held by the National Library in Warsaw and the Masaryk Institute at the Archive of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Prague.
