This article discusses the different effects concerning the electromagnetic waves propagation in the ionized part of Earth's upper atmosphere (the ionosphere as the layer of ions), with particular focus on effects connected with the ionization background, such as: anormal deviation absorption, normal deviation absorption, Faraday rotation, Doppler effect, dispersion, the change in the wave arrival, group delay.

The article contains review of selected applications of statistical analyses in technical science to present certain information for model parameters (including significance of regression indexes). The main considerations are pertinent to radio wave propagation in satellite systems.
