The article is devoted to the interpretation of two Czech place-names – Louny and Lounky. According to the author, these toponyms reflect the hydrological and pedological situation of the given localities: they are probably connected with the nonattested common noun *lúň > *louň ‚muddy place‘. The muddy terrain in the investigated localities is proved by historical and historical-geographical works, as well as by the contemporary descriptions of regional researchers.
