The article deals with the definition problems of the German adjective morphology with nominal reference, generally described as a three-class-system. We pretend to criticize especially the idea of an allomorph concept of congruence, which in our opinion is not able to represent correctly the functionality of the different criteria of application. Actually, even its combination with a quite more realistic vision of the theory of mono-inflexion will not change this impression. We also try to explain didactic consequences, which the traditional scheme of explication might have on learners with a native speaker’s background really based upon the principle of congruence in the mentioned context.

Sprachvergleiche jeglicher Art erfreuen sich sowohl in theoretisch-linguistischen wie angewandt-di­daktischen Arbeiten großer Beliebtheit. Die entscheidende methodologische Grundfrage nach einem geeigneten Tertium Comparationis wird dabei allerdings häufig mit folgenschwerer Arbitrarietät behandelt. Der Artikel versucht einige konventionelle Herangehensweisen an das Thema kritisch zu beleuchten und einen möglichen Bezugsrahmen für künftige Vergleichsforschungen zu postulieren. Dazu ist vor allen Dingen die mehr oder minder explizite Einwirkung einer vom Lateinischen ge­prägten Sprachanalyse in ihren verschiedenen Facetten zu würdigen. Bedeutsam scheint uns dabei, dass sich alle modernen Sprachentwicklungen zusehends von diesem Bezugssystem entfernen.

Any kind of language comparison seems quite popular either in theoretical linguistics or in ap­plied-didactic works. Nevertheless, the most important methodological question, the definition of an appropriate Tertium Comparationis is often treated with problematic coincidence. The article pretends to clear out in a critic view some of the conventional approximations to the theme and tries to propose a possible frame for future contrastive researches. For that reason it is necessary to appreciate the more or less explicit impact of a linguistic analysis influenced by Latin conceptions in its different aspects. It seems significant, that all modern language evolutions are showing a constant centrifugal tendency in relation to the mentioned referential system.

The necessary transition from instrumental foreign language lessons to the reading of literary texts often will be accompanied by a total reset of supposed knowledge. This might be avoided by a smart text-selection. The article, using the example of the Catalan author Jaume Fuster and his Claus de vidre, shall prove, why and in which way criminal riddles are specially suitable as beginner’s reading. The advantages of Whodunits in order to improve comprehension of written texts based on low or inexistent language experience might be illustrated especially well by introducing a rather marginal language. Obviously, the previous confidence in the existence of a reasonable explanation about the criminal mystery unchains the evolution of linguistic awareness. It’s surprising that the imitation of the detective’s job seems to improve the concentric perception even of those parts of the text which don’t keep any direct relation with the crime.
