The aim of this publication is to point out the growing need to develop and create a wide offer of lifelong guidance in the context of man's functioning in postmodern reality, along with new work and social challenges connected with that. The starting point for the discussion is defining the postmodern reality as characterized by the lack of clarity, no clear-cut rules of conduct and no repetition. This, in turn, leads to the fact that a person has to deal with constant insecurity and needs to get more support at every stage of his or her life. Development of the information society and dynamic globalization processes, which influence the specificity and requirements of the free market economy, provide the ground for creation and development of lifelong guidance in Poland. Following the analysis of these phenomena, the authoress points out the specific changes in work and one's professional career within the postmodern reality context, and emphasizes the beginning of the ‘white-collar workers’ era’, who already work or will work soon in learning organizations. By addressing the requirements of the postmodern social reality and labour market, one may claim that lifelong guidance is of vital importance for a person, especially within the scope of developing the readiness to learn, and openness to new technologies. In the summary, the authoress stresses that as a result of the permanent change lifelong guidance should be related to a diversified support offered to a person in his or her personal, educational and systemic development, which means influencing many spheres of one's life simultaneously in an integrated and systemic way.

Shaping the image of a modern employer regarding the demands of the job market is the main area of interest in this article. The starting point for the discussion on the changes and tendencies on the job market and the key competences that both employees and work candidates should possess is showing the unique way the modern company works. The so-called employer branding issues, which are important from the companies’ point of view, are also addressed. That being so, the need for shaping the image of an attractive employer according to the employees’ expectations is the final issue described in this article. The way the employer shapes his image is reflected in the employees’ attitude, who either perceive him as an attractive “workplace” or not very flexible and objectifying the staff. An attractive modern employer shapes the work environment, especially when it is meant for the ambitious and talented workers. A consciously planned and implemented image and recruitment policy of a company build the brand, increase prestige and ensure a strong market position.
