Self-education and lifelong education are important and repeatedly discussed topics in Professor Józef Półturzycki’s rich literary output. In this text, the author briefly reviews the items describing the above-mentioned issues. Based on the method of interpreting the terms and understanding the self-education process presented in them, the author presents his own conclusions from the surveys carried out among teachers and school principals. They make it possible for us to identify (1) the lack of knowledge about the theory of self-education, (2) confusing it with unintentional learning or self-learning, (3) the conviction that the term can be used freely, and (4) the absence of self-education process. The collected material confirms the topicality of the thoughts and postulates formulated by Professor Józef Półturzycki.

Samokształcenie i edukacja ustawiczna były ważnymi i wielokrotnie poruszanymi wątkami w bogatym dorobku literackim Profesora Józefa Półturzyckiego. W niniejszym tekście autor dokonuje krótkiego przeglądu publikacji opisujących wyżej wymienione zagadnienia. Opierając się na prezentowanym w nich sposobie interpretacji terminu i rozumienia procesu samokształcenia, przedstawia własne wnioski z badań przeprowadzonych w środowisku nauczycieli i dyrektorów szkół, mianowicie: brak wiedzy na temat teorii samokształcenia, mylenie go z uczeniem się niezamierzonym czy samouctwem, przekonanie o możliwości swobodnego posługiwania się terminem, brak procesu samokształcenia. Zebrany materiał potwierdza aktualność myśli i postulatów formułowanych przez Profesora Józefa Półturzyckiego.
