Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie istoty rynku pracy oraz analiza czynników ekonomicz-nych, które go determinują. Rynek pracy jest jednym z czynników produkcji analizowanych w ekono-mii. Obok niego funkcjonują: rynek dóbr i usług, rynek kapitału i rynek pieniądza. Każdy z nich rządzi się odmiennymi prawami i na każdy z nich oddziałują inne czynniki. Polska w ciągu ostat-nich 20 lat przeszła istotne przeobrażenia. Efektem są istotne zmiany na polskim rynku pracy, w tym także na rynku pracy regionu zachodniopomorskiego. Transformacja spowodowała, że w Polsce wykształcił się prawdziwy, rządzący się prawami popytu i podaży rynek pracy. Zniknęły sztucznie występujące w okresie gospodarki centralnie sterowanej niedobory siły roboczej, a pojawiła się nadwyżka podaży pracy, która była przyczyną powiększającej się stopy bezrobocia. Ukazanie czynników determinujących rynek pracy poprzez przeobrażenia na przestrzeni 10 i kolejnych lat jest niezbędne w ocenie tego rynku.

The main goal of this article is to show the substance of the labor market and to analyze the economic factors that determine it. The labour market is one of the type of markets of production factors being analyzed in economics. Next to the labour market, there is a market of goods and services, the capital market and the financial market. Each one of them is governed by different rules and each one is influenced by different factors. Over the last twenty years, Poland has gone through significant changes. These changes include relevant shifts on the Polish labor market, as well as on the labor market of West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The transformation has caused Poland to develop a real labour market governed by the principles of supply and demand. The artificially created labour deficits of the centrally planned economy have disappeared and a labour supply surplus has emerged, causing an increase in the unemployment rate. Outlining the factors determining the labor market through the transformations thoughout the last 10 years is an essen-tial process in the contemporary assesment of this market.
