Kontrola i technologia – kontrola technologii. Przypadek świata sportu

The paper concerns the relations between social control and technology. This phenomenon is illustrated by examples from a sport field. The sport remains a great indicator of social and technological changes, so it serves as an useful research context. The text analyses the three occurrences from nowadays sport world: legless athlete Oscar Pistorius and his artificial limbs; “shark skin” swimsuits; Frank Lampard’s disallowed goal in World Cup 2010. The cases lead to the two main questions. The first one is as follows: who (should) control technology in sport? The second one – how the technology should be controlled? The basis of this paper is an empirical research. The survey was conducted in sport environment. It uses the case study method. Within the method three minor technics were used: desk research, discourse analysis and expert’s IDI.

Tekst dotyczy relacji między kontrolą społeczną a technologią. Związek ten analizowany jest na przykładzie jednego wybranego obszaru życia społecznego – sportu. Pole to stanowi bowiem miejsce niezwykle wyraźnie ukazujące dynamikę jego przemian. Na podstawie wybranych przykładów Autor poszukuje odpowiedzi na dwa główne pytania badawcze: kto dziś kontroluje technologię w świecie sportu i jak się ją kontroluje. Artykuł opiera się na badaniach empirycznych zrealizowanych w środowisku sportowym. Wykorzystuje on metodę case study. W jej ramach zastosowane zostały trzy techniki – desk research, analiza dyskursu medialnego oraz eksperckie wywiady jakościowe.

Oscar Pistorius, an amputee runner from the Republic of South Africa moving on prosthetic legs became a person whose presence on sports arenas put under question the foundations of our knowledge about social life. The text focuses on the analysis of the runner’s social phenomenon. It is carried out through the perspective of his “three lives” and the event that concludes them. The first life of Pisorius is a life of a disabled person. It poses questions about the limits of possibilities of the human body and its improvements. The second life of the South African athlete concerns his connections with technology. The fact that he is using ultra-modern prosthetics has turned him into a “cyborg” and “blade runner”. The third life regards a social transgression that the athlete embodies. The event that ends the sports life of Pistorius concerns multi-dimentional postcolonial violence.

Jednym z kluczowych aspektów społecznego fenomenu sportu pozostaje paradygmatyczność dyskursu z nim związanego. Kategorie w nim używane stosuje się bowiem często do opisu również innych sfer życia społecznego. Sport dostarcza reguł rywalizacji, proponuje określone sposoby poznawczego porządkowania świata (rankingi, rekordy, pomiary), podkreśla centralność ciała w rzeczywistości społecznej czy kładzie nacisk na społeczną potrzebę transgresji. Pomimo takiego dyskursywnego usytuowania pozostaje on zjawiskiem trudnym do zdefiniowania przez nauki społeczne. Celem niniejszego tekstu jest więc próba wypracowania definicji sportu, która uwzględniałaby specyfikę fenomenu i zarazem dostarczałaby narzędzi do teoretycznej i empirycznej refleksji nad sportem. Składa się on ze wstępu i trzech części merytorycznych. W części pierwszej zarysowana została społeczna specyfika sportu, która wiąże się z procesem jego definiowania. Następnie – w drugiej części – przedstawiono dwa skrajne podejścia do wytyczania ram zjawiska: atrybucyjne i kontekstualne. W ostatnim fragmencie zaprezentowane zaś zostało ujęcie, które można określić mianem ustrukturyzowanego kontekstualizmu, czyli definiowania sportu jako zespołu praktyk społecznych, które zbiorowości określają mianem sportu, ale które również mają pewną utrwaloną i uniwersalną strukturę, rozumianą w danej zbiorowości jako grupa fundamentalnych cech wspólnych i koniecznych, by analizowaną praktykę określać mianem sportu.

The main aspect of social popularity of sport is its specific discourse. Sport terms are used to describe many phenomena from other social fields. It is easy to find many examples—“showing red card,” “penalty,” “faster—higher—stronger,” “fair play.” Sport delivers the rules of rivalry, offers particular ways for cognitive structuring of the world (rankings, records, measurements), emphasizes the role of corporality, and underlines the need for transgression. Nevertheless, notwithstanding its discursive embedment, it remains a phenomenon difficult to define within the context of social sciences. This text represents an attempt to elaborate this kind of perspective. The definition at hand is supposed to consider the internal diversity of sport. On the other hand, it should provide the researchers with empirical research tools. The paper consists of introduction and three parts. Firstly, the social specificity of sport is described. Secondly, two different ways of defining sport are introduced—attributive and contextual. Finally, the third way of defining sport is suggested—structured contextualism.

Two books edited by Kevin Young (2016, 2017) present the global landscape of the sociology of sport. The authors give the characteristic of this subdiscipline in their countries. The statements are based on some common key question. But there is a lack of Poland in these analysis. Thus, this text delivers the brief description of sociology of sport in Poland. The review is focused on its three aspects: the past, the present and the future.

W dwóch wydanych niedawno publikacjach pod redakcją Kevina Younga (2016, 2017) przedstawiony został światowy pejzaż socjologii sportu. Autorzy poszczególnych rozdziałów tej publikacji, reprezentujący różne państwa, zostali poproszeni o opisanie rodzimego statusu tej subdyscypliny w oparciu o zbiór pytań kluczowych dla jej scharakteryzowania. Wśród analizowanych krajów nie pojawia się jednak Polska. Niniejszy tekst jest zatem próbą opisania kondycji polskiej socjologii sportu przez pryzmat trzech jej aspektów: przeszłości, teraźniejszości i przyszłości.

The text concerns the symbolic-relational aspect of poverty’s social exclusion. It consists of two parts. In the paragraphs 1–3 the theoretical concepts are introduced. They focus on social exclusion and its linked phenomena: space, reproduction, consumption and giving up. Paragraph 4 describes the empirical research on preventing social exclusion caused by poverty. The example of warminsko-mazurskie voivodeship provides a number of actions, which are undertake to counter this problem – strategic planning, widening the access to public service, activation policy or social economy.

The article is an analysis of the condition of dependent people and their   carers. The first part of the text is based on research Socio-economic aspects of family care support functions in Wielkopolska, empirical study of the phenomenon. In it there are presented such issues as ways of performing the protective function, needs of families in performing the protective function and the level to meet those needs.The second part presents embedded in the social economy possible methods of social and professional activation of dependent people and their carers. Due to the nature of the case there are presented good practices within the two selected types of institutions - therapy workshops and clubs of social integration.

Artykuł stanowi dwupłaszczyznową analizę kondycji osób niesamodzielnych i ich opiekunów. Pierwsza część tekstu to oparta na badaniach „Społeczno-ekonomiczne aspekty wsparcia funkcji opiekuńczej rodzin na terenie województwa wielkopolskiego” empiryczne studium zjawiska. Poruszone są w nim takie jego wymiary jak sposoby pełnienia funkcji opiekuńczej, potrzeby rodzin w pełnieniu funkcji opiekuńczej oraz poziom zaspokojenia tych potrzeb.W drugiej zaś części przedstawione zostały umocowane w przestrzeni ekonomii społecznej możliwe ścieżki aktywizacji społecznej i zawodowej osób niesamodzielnych i ich opiekunów. Ze względu na specyfikę przypadku zaprezentowane zostały dobre praktyki w ramach dwóch wybranych typów instytucji – warsztatów terapii zajęciowej oraz klubów integracji społecznej.

The paper concerns the intersectoral collaboration in social policy. It focuses on the cooperation between regional self-government and local social policy entities. The main goal of this text is to present the factors which affect this partnership. The presented analysis of the relation tries to describe “imponderables” of this relation. It points out the conditionings of collaboration apart from the legal or economic issues. The paper is based on the mixed qualitative (in-depth interviews) and quantitative (paper & pencil interviews) research. It shows the different aspects of the relation amongst voivodships self- government and commune, land district and NGO’s.

Artykuł dotyczy problematyki współpracy samorządu regionalnego z lokalnymi podmiotami polityki społecznej. Jego celem jest zdiagnozowanie uwarunkowań współpracy w odniesieniu do przykładu samorządu województwa wielkopolskiego. Empirycznie opisane zostaną relacje z podmiotami samorządowymi na poziomie gminnym i powiatowym oraz przedstawicielami trzeciego sektora, jako głównymi partnerami województwa w realizacji usług społecznych. Wnioski formułowane są na podstawie badań ilościowych przeprowadzonych techniką wywiadu kwestionariuszowego (PAPI) wśród przedstawicieli lokalnych podmiotów polityki społecznej oraz wywiadów pogłębionych (IDI). Analiza empiryczna poprzedzona jest uzasadnieniem wagi międzysektorowych relacji we współczesnej polityce społecznej, co podjęty problem lokuje w kontekście współczesnych przemian państwa opiekuńczego.
