The aim of the researchers is to illustrate the history and contemporary challenges in the field of social assistance and social work in Ukraine. The first part of the article shows a historical background and development of the social assistance system and social work in Ukraine. The second part, based on the analysis of available conceptual and strategic documents, aims to present the state policy in the field of developing the social assistance system and social work, paying attention to the intensification in the field of social services.

Pierwsza część artykułu ukazuje rys historyczny i rozwój systemu pomocy społecznej oraz pracy socjalnej w Ukrainie. Druga część, oparta na analizie dostępnych dokumentów koncepcyjnych i strategicznych, ma na celu przedstawienie polityki państwa w zakresie rozwijania systemu pomocy społecznej oraz pracy socjalnej, ze zwróceniem uwagi na intensyfikację w zakresie usług społecznych.
