Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie wybranych obszarów działalności społecznej i politycznej Anglo-Polish Conservatve Society. Angielsko-polskie stowarzyszenie było strukturą afiliowaną przy brytyjskiej Partii Konserwatywnej, która zrzeszała wybranych Polaków, emigrantów politycznych i Brytyjczyków złączonych wspólnotą ideową. Anglo-Polish Conservative Society afirmowało program brytyjskich konserwatystów, na podstawie którego kształtowało własne interpretacje polityczne. Organizacja miała na celu dążenie do zawiązania wspólnoty osób, które dzięki podejmowanym inicjatywom, stopniowo budowałyby porozumienie polsko-brytyjskie mogące przełożyć się na bardziej wymierny udział Polaków w życiu społecznym i politycznym kraju ich emigracyjnego osiedlenia. Według Anglo-Polish Conservative Society najlepszym sposobem by zrealizować powyższy cel była organizacja wspólnych wydarzeń oraz przedsięwzięć w obszarze społecznym, kulturalnym, gospodarczym czy politycznym. Wśród przedstawianych w artykule obszarów aktywności Anglo-Polish Conservative Society można wymienić działalność podczas poszczególnych kampanii wyborczych i referendalnych, organizację spotkań politycznych i wydarzeń towarzyskich oraz serię aktywności w sferze emancypacji ekonomicznej Polaków zamieszkujących Wielką Brytanię.

The aim of this article is to present selected areas of social and political activity of the Anglo-Polish Conservatve Society. The Anglo-Polish Association was an affiliated structure of the British Conservative Party, which brought together selected Poles and Britons united by an ideological community. The Anglo Polish Conservative Society affirmed the British Conservative program, on the basis of which it emphasized its own political interpretations. The organization aimed at forming a community of people who, thanks to the initiatives undertaken, would gradually build a Polish-British agreement that would translate into a more visible participation of Poles in the social and political life of the country of their emigration settlement. According to the Anglo- Polish Conservative Society, the best way to achieve the above goal was to organize joint events and undertakings in the social, cultural, economic and political fields. The areas of activity of the Anglo-Polish Conservative Society presented in the article include activities during individual election and referendum campaigns, organization of political meetings and social events and a series of activities in the sphere of economic emancipation of Poles living in Great Britain.

The aim of article is to introduce to political life of polish emigration in United Kingdom in the years 1945-1990. In this paper I intend to present the history of polish emigres in Great Britain, which were forming Republic in exile - Poland beyond Poland. In the post-war period polish emigres were developing polish political scene basing on principles expressed in the Constitution of 1935. The main entities which shaping the emigration policy were President and the Government in exile, as well as the Parliament's substitute in the form of National Councils. Moreover, pre-war political parties were also important in polish political life in United Kingdom. They shaped the identity of emigration. The main goal of the Republic in exile was realized - centre of power in exile has retained a deposit of legality and continuity of the state. It became a symbol of independent Poland, which lasted despite the fact that the whole world turned away from it.
