The Benedictine convent in Staniątki is the oldest Polish Benedictine nunnery, existing continuously for over 800 years. There was a school for noble girls at the convent. During the German occupation, despite numerous difficulties in maintaining the nunnery, the sisters conducted secret education – boys were also admitted to the classes (previously it was a girls’ school). Moreover, Jewish children were hidden among the students. The preserved documentation of the educational activities of the Benedictine nuns is, unfortunately, extremely modest, but it allows us to paint a picture of the underground education by the Benedictine nuns in Staniątki.
