The idea of Messianism stemming from the religious traditions of Israel, and in Christianity, connected with the person of Jesus of Nazareth, is still alive. It is evidenced by the literature as well as the conducted disputes and discussions. Messianism in the theological tradition of the Catholic Church in Poland had one significance in the era of Romanticism, and still another at the beginning of the 21st century. Despite its differences, one may still notice certain similarities between them, such as a tendency to connect the Messianistic ideas with the national category. This religious idea is very capacious, subject to various interpretations, which forces a critical attitude on the religious plane, and, in theoretical analyses, an intellectual alertness. This article undertakes the problems and opportunities related to Messianism and its significance in the reflections on the person of Jesus – Savior – Messiah.

In this article the author undertakes the issues regarding „the animal studies” and the undertaken attempts to grant animals „the personal” rights pari passu the human rights. In this analysis he takes into account both the difficulties connected with the d definition of the ontological status of living beings, as well as the question of identity and the difference between animals and humans. Historical applications illustrate constant attempts to define the place of a human being among living beings. Finally, the author stands in the position that biology itself will not serve, nor will the ecological movements based on the idea of elimination of the unique status of a human being. The author favors the approach to the animal rights protection in accordance with the anthropocentric philosophy. A full understandingof the human being’s place in the world eliminates the attitude of mindless exploitation of nature and the actions resulting in ecological catastrophes. The proposals of the animal rightsprotection and natural environment protection voiced by Christian theologians and lawyers fit into the worldwide ecological aspirations.

Based on literature and the author’s own research, this article analyses what is expected of judges who carry out judicial functions in the Polish judicial system. It is a topical andsocially significant issue. To show the required personal qualities of a judge, this article presents issues that make it possible to take optimal judicial decisions. Such qualities include the knowledge of the law, experience and the wisdom of a judge. There is also the love of law and order, as well as judicial autonomy and independence. These conditions guarantee freedom of choice in the pursuit of justice. The author’s main conclusion is that legal regulations and institutional conditions of work are indispensable, but there is no substitute for personal qualities of a judge, that is their conscience and commitment to a fair trial to which every person has a right.

W artykule, na podstawie wybranej literatury oraz własnych badań, autor analizuje oczekiwania pod adresem sędziów pełniącym funkcje orzecznicze w systemie polskiego sądownictwa. Temat aktualny i społecznie ważny. Aby ukazać warunki podmiotowe sędziego, w strukturze artykułu, przedstawia kolejno zagadnienia umożliwiające optymalne orzecznictwo sądowe, a więc konieczną znajomość prawa, doświadczenie i mądrość sędziego.

The problem of usury has been discussed in this article. It was a condemned form of gaining profit in the European tradition. The source of such approach is found in the Biblical trafition which expressly banned lending money on interest. That moral guideline contained in the Bible was followed both in Islam as well as Christianity. It was not a pracice that was excluded from theological discussions, especially that there always appered some cases of abuse. The theological interpretation of authority figures, the Sobor rulings and the Popes’ teachings are all crucial in this matter. The teaching on usury has not changed, but the moral ecaluation of the loans granted on the so-called interest evolved. In the modern times the real and just criteria of charging fees for lending money have been formulated. This problem is especially crucial and current since in the modern practice of chasing the maximum profit, in the situation of ruthless competition, the economic crisis, as well as the vision of the downfall of the bank, there exists a real danger of the emergence of usury. The practices of money trading are not excludes from moral evaluation

Religious life, understood as life resulting from the actions of the Holy Spirit, called „spiritual life”, should cover all aspects of human existence. This article has been written from this point of view, i.e. Catholic theology. It is difficult to speak of human development, about stages of his achieving maturity, as well as internally integrated personality when you do not take into account spiritual life. Acts of spiritual struggle should cover life in the periodof old age in its specific phases, or even appear as the culmination of a lifetime’s spiritual maturity. Specific forms of this spiritual experience – highlights are acts of confrontation in the senior age with the truth of impending death. They can take place on the level of specific values. It is an experience of freedom, hope and solitude. Acceptance of the truth concerning the final existential status and being fully aware while carrying these states testifies the ability for transcendence acts. In a natural, thus inborn way, living beings, especially humans, are focused on being andon development of life. Behavioral defense actions appear when facing any threats. And so the entire human culture, from means and development of disciplines, practice of science, all the way to different methods of creating politics of consent and cooperation with people, is focused on protecting against loss of life. On the grounds of medical science continual attempts are being made to overcome death ultimately. Unfortunately, the final defeat of thefact of death is still very far away. Becoming aware of the upcoming moment of death without panic and paralyzing fear is a higher level of worthy living of one’s humanity. A fairly common practice proposed by institutional care centers and assistance offered to people at senior age is the method of running away from the final confrontation and offering substitution procedures such as proposals of many forms of physical and mental activity. This offer includes continuation of professional work, traveling, and participation in studies, dancing clubs and all types of entertainment. There is no need to depreciate these proposals, butthey cannot be the only model of experiencing the period of old age. They cannot be selfdeception techniques. It is striking how much vita activa dominates over vita contemplativa in the general culture. There are too few proposals for the continuation of Christian religious development in the form of performing spiritual acts of transcendence. There is no program to learn the ability of „crossing any spiritual limitations” in the sense of hope for „being” in the future, despite the fact that old people are to the greatest extent engaged in church and religious communities. Nothing can substitute for proposals of spiritual maturity. Unfortunately, church orthopraxis in this respect is also limited and neglected.

Język teologii poprzez związki z tradycją, spełniając wymogi metodologiczne, dążąc do ścisłości, w konsekwencji odznacza się hermetycznością. Rodzi to problemy semantyczne oraz stwarza trudności komunikacji. Teologia ciągle szuka nowego sposobu przekazu, bardziej adekwatnej narracji religijnej treści. Autor przedłożonego artykułu podejmując w namyśle interdyscyplinarnym katechizmową prawdę o możliwości "wiecznego wykluczenia”, archetyp tej sytuacji widzi w doświadczeniu osamotnienia. Analizując subiektywne doświadczenie osamotnienia w aspekcie psychologicznym, socjologicznym, mistycznym, teologicznym, (modalność samotności), wskazuje na istniejące, stałe, zobiektywizowane elementy. Osamotnienie człowieka woła o obecność, utrata relacji personalnych prowadzi do radykalnej destrukcji. Analizę tę, potwierdzają cytowani teologowie i filozofowie. Osamotnienie, to „rodzaj śmierci” przed rzeczywistą śmiercią. Osamotnienie, to najbardziej radykalne doświadczenie sprzeczne z naturą człowieka, która spełnia się jedynie w relacjach personalnych. Interpretacja tego doświadczenia, jako braku więzi, powiązanego z całością ludzkiej egzystencji w perspektywie religijnych przekonań, ułatwia na sposób analogiczny – pojęciowy zbliżyć się do sensu możliwości „wiecznego wykluczenia”.

Language of theology though its connection with tradition, while satisfying methodological requirements and striving for precision, is characterised by hermeticism as a consequence. That causes semantic problems and creates communication difficulties. Theology is constantly searching for a new medium, a more appropriate narration of religious contents. The author of this article while undertaking the Catechetical truth of a possibility of “eternal expulsion” in the interdisciplinary context, sees an archetype of this situation in the experience of loneliness. While analysing a subjective experience of loneliness in the psychological, sociological, mystical, theological (modality of loneliness) aspects, he indicates the existing, constant and objectified elements. The loneliness of man calls for presence, the loss of personal relations leads to radical destruction. That analysis is endorsed by cited theologians and philosophers. Loneliness is “a kind of death” before an actual death. Loneliness is the most radical experience contrary to human nature which fulfils itself only in personal relations. The interpretation of that experience, its lack of ties, connected with the wholeness of human existence in the perspective of religious convictions facilitates in an analogous – conceptual way an approach to a sense of possibilities of “eternal expulsion”.

The author of this article, based on the accounts of the blessed Dorothy of Montau [Dorothea von Montau] (1347–1394), a medieval mystic, related by a theologian and confessor John of Kwidzyn [Joannes Marienwerder] (1343–1417), in a little work entitled Septililium, firstly, analyzes the degrees of spiritual life in order to present the degrees of supernatural love against such background, which were part of the experience of the recluse from the cathedral church in Kwidzyn. Spiritual life as a relationship of love with God encompasses an entire life. The pluralism of aspects is very rich. Traditionally understood religious life goes through the process of cleansings of the senses, then, the acceptance of the virtues of faith, hope and love, in order to enter a path of contemplative prayer and mystical communion. Love is the essence of spiritual life. The blessed Dorothy of Montau enjoyed a gift of seven graces: the gift of love, the gift of the Holy Spirit, the love of the Eucharist, contemplation, perfectness of life and the gift of penitence. God is worthy of perfect love. The Master of Kwidzyn mentions more degrees and characteristics of that love recognized in the theological reflection and mystical acts of the blessed Dorothy of Montau. The love of God should be: “wide” so in the love of God it is loving all men, then, “ordered”, as well as “limitless.” Perfect love as spiritual disposition is “continuous”, “deeply rooted”, “brave”, “constant”, then, “heated”, “on fire and wanting”, “ascending high”, i.e., exceeding the love of man and “overwhelming” as the one leading to God by the way of Commandments, the wandering from “virtue into virtue” and “the path of advice” of the Holy Spirit. The perfect love according to God’s inspiration is the highest elevation of the human spirit strengthened by God that is why it has the features of “hurt”, it is “unsettling”, “impatient”, and even surprisingly “crazy”, “sweet”, “greedy”, always “insatiable”, and since it is limited by human existence, it is thus “longing”, “intoxicating”, “enriching”, “cheering up”. Spiritual love must radiate. Joannes Marienwerder employs the word “gushing”, it is ample so it is “overflowing” every man and it is, of course, “wise”, as well as “invincible”, is not subject to “fatigue”, it is “impossible to lose”, “immortal”, “great and heart-breaking”. Finally, in the treatise entitled On Love by the blessed Dorothy of Montau as many as thirty six degrees of love are listed and briefly characterized.
