This article deals with subordinate nominal content clauses in Czech and in German. Nominal content clauses are specific in that the so-called relative tenses are used in them. In Czech there is, with a few exceptions, only one principle of the use of the relative tenses, whereas in German there exist three different principles. The aim of this article is to find out how the German principles are applied and how they correspond to the Czech principle. The results obtained should be helpful for German teachers and for translators from Czech into German, or from German into Czech.
