The article deals with the issue of illegal gambling in Poland. The State has the monopoly of the business in the scope of number games, cash lotteries etc. Anyone – who organizes or operates gambling games against the law (the Gambling Activities Act) or the terms of license or permit – commits the crime. The first part of article deals with some legal aspects of crime of illegal gambling. Next, there is criminological description of that problem in Poland, based on statistics published by Ministry of Justice.

Urządzanie i prowadzenie gier hazardowych, gier na automatach i zakładów wzajemnych jest działalnością, którą jest reglamentowana przez państwo. Wszelkiego rodzaju odstępstwa od tego winny być oceniane negatywnie, a nawet sankcjonowane. Tego rodzaju zjawisko, czyli tzw. nielegalny hazard, stanowi zagrożenie zarówno dla państwa – jego interesów finansowych i porządku publicznego, ale też dla obywateli. Celem przybliżenia tego przestępczego zjawiska podjęto próbę przedstawienia jego wybranych aspektów o charakterze prawnym i kryminologicznym.
