Reviews and book advertisments in women’s Zwierciadło (2001–2003)Connections between the press and the book are known since the end of XVII century. Information about literature appeared in journals in different forms. In the beginning, these notices were mainly publisher advertisements and editorial reviews. Then, papers started to print episodic novels, stories, and poetry. Today, when book has to compete with other means of mass media including the Internet, the promotion of literature seems to be especially important. In this paper, two basic forms of book information are presented: reviews and editorial advertisements published in the magazine Zwierciadło between 2001 and 2003.

Der Aufsatz präsentiert die literarische Beilage yu einer aus polnischen Tageszeitungen der letzte Dekade des XX-en Jahrhunderts. In dem wurden verschiedene Formen der Promotion der Bücher vorgestellt; u.a.: Buchbesprechungen, buchhändlerische Anyeigen, Interviews, und Kleinformen betreffende des Buchmarktes. Es wurde hier der Bau Bücher und Inseraten Charakterisiert mit statistischen Daten. Es wurde auch im Gestalt von Tabellen gezeigt, die am häufigsten besprechende und werbende Titel und Autoren, so polnisch, wie fremde. In gewissem Grade wurde auch die Werbungssprache präsentiert, dadurch Anführen der auserwählten, interessanten Werbungslosungen, und anderen Formulierungen, die der Leser zum Einkauf, oder zum Lesen eines auserwähiten Buches anregen konnten. Dieses zusammentragende Material ist das Ergebnis der eigenen Untersuchungen, welche die Form der gründlichen Analyse in Jahren 1998–2000 annehmen. Es wurde auch aufgenommen Informationen, die in Interviews mit Redakteure der besprechenden Teile erreichen wurden.

Objective - The author presents the Library of Łódź Theological College - the only theological Catholic research library run in the archdiocese of Łódź - discussing its structure, tools, collections and circulation methods. The data collected during the research on this long-lasting institution may be used as a reference source in further research on church libraries in Poland. Research method - The article is based on the analysis of source texts (Łódź Theological College website, literature on Polish church libraries, a publication on the College in question, the Library annual reports) and data gathered through interviews with the Library staff. Results – Data collected by the author enable her to characterize the Library, its facilities, activities, structure of Library collections and methods of access to the Library resources. Conclusions – The Library is in good condition as regards its collections and facilities.

Teza/cel artykułu - W artykule opisano funkcjonowanie Biblioteki Wyższego Seminarium Duchownego w Łodzi. Jej znaczenie zwiększa fakt, iż jest ona jedyną teologiczną katolicką biblioteką naukową, działająca w archidiecezji łódzkiej. Przedstawiono strukturę organizacyjną, warsztat informacyjny i księgozbiór wybranej placówki, oraz sposoby korzystania z gromadzonych przez nią zbiorów. W założeniu, zebrane dane służyć miały prezentacji tej, posiadającej długą historię, biblioteki, stanowiąc jeden z punktów odniesienia dla dalszych badań w obrębie bibliotek kościelnych w Polsce. Metody badań - Tekst opiera się w znaczącej części na analizie materiałów źródłowych (strona internetowa seminarium duchownego w Łodzi, literatura dotycząca bibliotek kościelnych w Polsce, opracowanie poświęcone Wyższemu Seminarium Duchownemu w Łodzi, sprawozdania z działalności opisywanej biblioteki), a także, częściowo, na podstawie danych, uzyskanych w trakcie wywiadu, przeprowadzonego z pracownikami biblioteki. Wyniki – Zebrany materiał pozwolił na przedstawienie wybranej placówki, jej warunków lokalowych, działalności i struktury gromadzonego księgozbioru oraz sposobów jego udostępniania. Wnioski – Przedstawiona biblioteka charakteryzuje się dobrą kondycją, szczególnie pod względem posiadanego księgozbioru oraz warunków lokalowych.

Problematyka wojny w Ukrainie na łamach czasopism opiniotwórczych w Polsce. Przypadek „Polityki” (luty–sierpień 2022 r.)

The main purpose of the article is to determine how, between February and August 2022, the “Polityka” weekly presented events directly and indirectly related to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict: what issues were most often raised, what overtones they carried, to what extent the political nature of this title influenced the transmission of information. Research methods: press content analysis method, literature analysis and criticism method, statistical method and partly historical method were used. The following categories were used: Ukraine, Russia, Russian-Ukrainian war, European Union, European Union countries, sanctions, refugees, NATO. Results and conclusions: The conducted study allowed us to answer the research questions posed in the introduction and to demonstrate the variety of issues raised directly and indirectly related to the discussed conflict. It was found that the authors of the newspaper maintained their objectivity in most of the topics they addressed. An exception were messages related to the assessment of the actions of the authorities in Poland in the context of the war. Information on this subject was clearly critical.

Podstawowym celem artykułu jest określenie, w jaki sposób na łamach tygodnika „Polityka” przedstawiano, między lutym a sierpniem 2022 r., wydarzenia bezpośrednio i pośrednio związane z konfliktem rosyjsko-ukraińskim: jakie zagadnienia najczęściej poruszano, jaki miały one wydźwięk, w jakim stopniu orientacja polityczna tego tytułu wpływała na przekazywanie informacji. Metody badań: skorzystano z metody analizy zawartości prasy, metody analizy i krytyki piśmiennictwa, metody statystycznej i częściowo historycznej. Posłużono się następującymi kategoriami: Ukraina, Rosja, wojna rosyjsko-ukraińska, Unia Europejska, kraje Unii Europejskiej, sankcje, uchodźcy, NATO. Wyniki i wnioski: przeprowadzone badania pozwoliły odpowiedzieć na postawione we wstępie pytania badawcze i wykazać różnorodność poruszanych zagadnień związanych bezpośrednio i pośrednio z omawianym konfliktem. Stwierdzono, że w większości podejmowanych tematów autorzy magazynu zachowali obiektywizm. Wyjątkiem były przekazy związane z oceną działań władzy w Polsce w kontekście wojny. Informacje na ten temat miały wyraźnie krytyczny wydźwięk.

The paper attempts to present the magazine „Kultura Wsi. Ludzie. Wydarzenia. Przemiany” and its assignment to a specific type of press. The content of the journal was analyzed in terms of the functions assumed by the editors. The research also sought to capture the image of the modern Polish village, appearing from the texts in the magazine. Attempts were also made to answer the question about the reasons for the fall of the title.

W artykule podjęto próbę prezentacji magazynu „Kultura Wsi. Ludzie. Wydarzenia. Przemiany” i przyporządkowania go do określonego typu prasy. Przeanalizowano zawartość periodyku pod kątem założonych przez redakcję funkcji. W badaniach dążono również do uchwycenia wizerunku współczesnej wsi polskiej, wyłaniającego się z tekstów zamieszczonych na łamach pisma. Starano się także odpowiedzieć na pytanie dotyczące przyczyn upadku tytułu.

The local press performs significant functions, not only informing the inhabitants of a given city about matters close to them, but also implementing the ideas of regionalism by promoting a “small homeland”, integrating a given community, and reflecting the life of people living in a specific territory. The aim of the article is to present one of the local periodicals – namely Wiadomości – 43 bis –and to attempt to answer the following research questions: how did the analysedperiodical change in 1989–2014? What was its strength and what was its weakness? Did it fulfill the functions assigned to this type of press, matching the definition of local magazines? What elements made it remain in the demanding press market, in which the rules seem to be dictated not only by the recipients themselves, but also by strong and well-established media concerns, which also invest in the regional press market? The paper can potentially contribute to further research on the press in the Łódź region.

Prasa lokalna pełni istotne funkcje, nie tylko informując mieszkańców danego miasta o sprawach im bliskich, ale również realizuje idee regionalizmu poprzez promocję „małej ojczyzny”, integruje daną społeczność i stanowi swego rodzaju odzwierciedlenie życia ludzi zamieszkujących określone terytorium. Celem artykułu jest prezentacja jednego z periodyków lokalnych – czasopisma „Wiadomości – 43bis” i próba odpowiedzi na następujące pytania badawcze: jak w latach 1989–2014zmieniał się analizowany periodyk? Co stanowiło o jego sile, a co świadczyło o słabości? Czy realizował on funkcje przypisywane tego typu prasie, wpisując się w definicję pism lokalnych? Jakie elementy sprawiły, że utrzymał się na wymagającym rynku prasowym, w którym reguły zdają się dyktować nie tylko sami odbiorcy, ale i silne, o ugruntowanej pozycji, koncerny medialne, inwestujące również w rynek prasy regionalnej? Praca stanowić może przyczynek do dalszych badań w zakresie prasy regionu łódzkiego.

Objective – The author discusses and evaluates the arrangement and operation of prison libraries at two prisons and one custody suite in Lodz together with their organizational structure, collections gathered and methods of circulating the library holdings. Research method – Data used in the paper were obtained from the analysis of the library records and interviews conducted in July 2010 with tutors employed in the library units of the prisons and the custody suite in question. Results and conclusions – Prison libraries in Lodz are poorly financed and organized as regards their promotion and cultural activities. There is a general lack of awareness of how books may be used to aid the resocialization of the prisoners.

Teza/cel artykułu – Celem artykułu jest opis i ocena organizacji i funkcjonowania bibliotek więziennych, działających w ramach dwóch Zakładów Karnych i jednego Aresztu Śledczego w Łodzi. Przedstawiono strukturę organizacyjną i księgozbiory każdej z nich oraz sposoby korzystania z gromadzonego księgozbioru. Metody badań – Wykorzystane w opracowaniu dane uzyskane zostały na podstawie analizy dokumentacji działalności badanych jednostek oraz wywiadów przeprowadzonych w lipcu 2010 r. z wychowawcami zatrudnionymi w działach penitencjarnych ds. bibliotek w poszczególnych ośrodkach. Wyniki i wnioski – Przeprowadzona analiza pozwoliła stwierdzić, że poddane badaniu łódzkie biblioteki więzienne charakteryzuje słaba kondycja, szczególnie pod względem finansowym, ale również działalności promocyjnej czy kulturowej. Widoczny jest także brak świadomości znaczenia funkcji terapeutycznej książki w procesie resocjalizacji osadzonych.

Two decades after independence recovering Polish intellectuals and writers were looking for new Poland ideal form. Close to the end of the thirties in twentieth century, in view of unstable situation in Poland and into the world, book and press became important tool for promotion of political and cultural ideas coming from different political groups. Taking into account this perspective special attention should pay on the editorial and literary organisation, developed fast in last years before the World War II. The aim of this presentation is to show the role of local social and literary journals from Lodz area (“Odnowa”, “Osnowy Literackie”, “Wymiary”), issued just before WWII, in creating of cultural and social attitude. It will be analyse 20 numbers of selected periodicals, covered years 1938-1939. The collected material will be used to find answers for below listed questions: how literal taste of readers was formed; how the selected journals met needs of society in the area of culture and ideology; in this very important moment for Poland.
