This paper gives the principles of designing lightning conductor system for wooden sacral buildings i.e. churches and chapels. The new method of mounting the down conductors directly on inflammable materials was presented in the article of prof. dr St. Szpor and arch. Z. Hirsch entitled „The Protection of Monumental Wooden Buildings” published in this number of „Ochrona Zabytków”. Much attention has been given to designing the lightning conductor system as invisible as possible — a very important fact for monumental buildings.
This paper deals with problems of lightning protection of monumental wooden folk buildings with special concern for the architectural aspect. The authors suggest a new method of laying the down conductors on the buildings directly on the inflammable materials, because the standard lightning conductor system mounted on monumental buildings disturbs their monumental character. The correct solution in such cases may be reached exclusively by the cooperation of an architect and an electrical expert on lightning protection problems.
