The article is a voice in the discussion on difficulties and threats related to the involvement of volunteers in assistance activities. It presents theoretical definitions of basic issues as well as practical conclusions from the observation of voluntary activities. The stages of engaging volunteers in cooperation with non-governmental organizations or other institutions have been analyzed in detail. At any stage of the activity, problems may arise that require immediate reaction. The implications of diagnosing these adversities are the basis for more effective planning and development of volunteer activities in the sector. The subject matter is a contribution to complementing the fragmented pragmatic knowledge of voluntary activity in Poland. Bearing in mind that volunteering by providing individual human capital of volunteers favors the multiplication of general social capital, the signaled topic should be the subject of further inquiries.

Artykuł stanowi głos w dyskusji o trudnościach i zagrożeniach związanych z angażowaniem wolontariuszy w działania pomocowe. W opracowaniu przedstawiono teoretyczne ujęcia definicyjne podstawowych zagadnień oraz praktyczne wnioski z obserwacji działań wolontarystycznych. Szczegółowej analizie poddano etapy angażowania wolontariuszy we współpracę z organizacjami pozarządowymi i innymi instytucjami. W każdym stadium aktywności mogą wystąpić problemy wymagające niekiedy natychmiastowej reakcji. Implikacje diagnozy wymienionych przeciwności stanowią podstawę do efektywniejszego planowania i rozwoju działań wolontarystycznych charakteryzowanego sektora. Podjęta tematyka stanowi wkład w uzupełnienie fragmentarycznej wiedzy pragmatycznej o działalności wolontarystycznej w Polsce. Pamiętając, że wolontariat, stanowiąc jednostkowy kapitał ludzki wolontariuszy, sprzyja pomnażaniu ogólnego kapitału społecznego, zasygnalizowany temat powinien stanowić przedmiot dalszych dociekań.

Shaping a positive image of disability is important for common functioning in society based on the principle of complementarity. Only then it is possible to say about the full integration of people with disabilities. Disability concerns not only persons but also members of their families. The subject of this study is to present the beliefs of Polish youth about the functioning of disabled people in the family sphere. It attempts to diagnose the beliefs within two research groups: students and high school youth. Thus, it was possible to distinguish the differences between groups of respondents. The main research problem is: What are the beliefs of young people about the functioning of people with disabilities in the family sphere and are there differences between school and academic youth in the analysed variables? The diagnostic survey method was used in this research. Based on the research it can be concluded that Polish young people are most strongly convinced of the fact that disabled people should be treated in the same way as other family members. Due to the multitude of aspects regarding family functioning, the research should be treated as an indication of the exploration field for further in-depth scientific analyses.

Kształtowanie pozytywnego obrazu niepełnosprawności jest istotne z uwagi na wspólne funkcjonowanie w społeczeństwie w oparciu o zasadę wzajemnego dopełniania i uzupełniania. Tylko wtedy można mówić o pełnej integracji osób niepełnosprawnych. Niepełnosprawność dotyczy nie tylko osoby, lecz także członków jej rodziny. Poznanie przekonań polskiej młodzieży na temat funkcjonowania osób niepełnosprawnych w sferze rodzinnej stanowi przedmiot dociekań niniejszego opracowania. Podjęto w nim próbę zdiagnozowania przekonań w obrębie dwóch grup badawczych: studentów i uczniów szkół średnich. Tym samym zaistniała możliwość wyodrębnienia różnic pomiędzy grupami ankietowanych. Główny problem badawczy brzmi: Jakie są przekonania młodzieży na temat funkcjonowania osób niepełnosprawnych w obszarze rodzinnym oraz czy występują różnice między młodzieżą szkolną i akademicką w zakresie analizowanych zmiennych? W badaniu zastosowano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego. Na podstawie analizy wyników można stwierdzić, że polska młodzież jest przekonana, że osoby niepełnosprawne powinny być traktowane tak samo jak pozostali członkowie rodziny. Z uwagi na wielość aspektów funkcjonowania w rodzinie badania należy traktować jako zasygnalizowanie pola eksploracji do dalszych, pogłębionych analiz naukowych.

Change Readiness and Positive Orientation in Professional Helpers in the Polish Welfare System during the COVID-19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic is undoubtedly a crisis situation, which means that the lives of persons experiencing it will never be the same as before. Professional helpers are faced with numerous challenges related to the change in their work flow, the need to modify strategies, work methods and tools, or to the switch from on-site to remote work. In this context, professional helpers’ resources are of considerable importance, as they constitute an important part of the welfare system. The analysis of the results of previous studies suggests that social workers’ change readiness and positive orientation not only may increase their professional effectiveness, but may even foster better quality of life. The present study investigated positive orientation and change readiness, as important predictors of professional functioning of persons in the sample group. The questionnaires were distributed among 189 professional helpers working in the Polish welfare system. The response rate was 98% (the final sample consisted of 185 persons) The results show that most subjects are characterized by the below-optimal levels of all the analyzed traits of the change readiness, but high and medium levels of positive orientation. The groups differed from one another in terms of adaptability (difference close to statistically significant). Change readiness and positive orientation may constitute important resources for professional helpers. Long service, being married, and a low level of change-readiness revealed in the presented study, may indicate that change-readiness is a general tendency in specific individuals, and is not dependent on the nature of changes themselves. The results may prompt a search for relations between personality factors and change-readiness.
