In this paper the author analyses the use and the distribution of the verbs 'be' and 'have' in Slovene which function as markers of possessivity and aspectuality. In the first part he shows that Slovene belongs to the 'have' language group. Analysing inversed sentences in comparison with other West- and South Slavic languages, the author concludes that Slovene as a 'have' language takes a transitional position from the 'be' language to 'have' language. In the second part, the author characterises so-called possessive perfect with the verb 'have' and passive particle. Comparing the situation in Slovene with that of other Slavic languages, he comes to the conclusion that this category is growing in Slovene, but it has not grammaticalised yet.
