This article is based on extant, mostly unpublished, confronted memories of the members of the conspiracy army participants, participants of the Polish Victory Service, Union of Armed Struggle and Home Army in the years of the German occupation in the region Łańcut and Leżajsk. Author focused his attention on characteristics of the German occupying forces, armed underground organization SZP-ZWZAK and detailed description of major sabotage actions undertaken on this area. Conspiratorial District Łańcut took part of the Inspectorate Przemyśl and covered territory the County Łańcut and territory of the region named Zasanie (part of the County Biłgoraj), belonging then to the General Government. Conspiracy in this area began in Autumn 1939. District Łańcut SZP-ZWZ-AK was one of the strongest districts belonging to the Polish Underground State, comparing number of conspirators, the scale of current operations conducted and comparing achieved results of the guerilla warfare. District Łańcut during the German occupation performed number of actions resulting from the organization’s objectives focused on regenerating the armed forces of the Polish Underground State. Organizational structure network has been created including organized structure of the Military Security Service Uprising, secret civilian administration protection has been assured, assistance was provided in hiding of wanted conspirators, integration action with other anti- German organizations e.g. BCh and NOW has been conducted effectively. Conspiracy communication, issuance and distribution of underground press (titles „Odwet” and „Czyn”) and other propaganda activities were then effectively performed, a lot of trainings for conspiracy soldiers were organized, including cadet courses, sabotage courses as well us medical. Judgments of the Special Courts of Justice were performed. ZWZ-AK soldiers from the District Łańcut specialized in railway sabotage and wrecking, weapon and other military materials were effectively acquired from German military warehouses and German trains, allied airdrops were protected and took, prisoners from the enemy jails were liberated. Since Spring 1944, intensive partisans warfare were undertaken, including actions focused on protection of Polish population in the region Zasanie against attacks of Ukrainian nationalists. In the end of July 1944 year famous guerilla action named „Burza” has been performed also on the territory of the District Łańcut AK, focused on support for attacking Red Army. Unfortunately a lot of fighters were heavily oppressed since August 1944 by the UB and NKWD, some participated in the so called 2nd underground independence activities against the new authorities of Poland.
