Encyclical Fratelli tutti is the second social Francis´ encyclical. It is entirely devoted to the problems of the modern world. Its message is patronized by the teaching of Saint Francis. In its main problems, it refers to the entirely of its autor´s teaching. First of all, it is an encyclical Laudato si´ of the year 2015. At the same time, the apostolic exhortation on Pope Francis from 2013 Evangelli Gaudium deserves special attention. In the later, the pope presents four „principles”. 1. „Time is greater than space”. 2. „Unity prevals over conflict”; 3. „Realities are more important than ideas”; 4. „The whole is greater than the part”. These principles mean in practice that there is a place for everyone in social life. And this is where brotherhood is expressed. This is the „spirit” of the teaching of Saint Francis. The text of the encyclical opens new perspekctives for teaching of the Church

Relationship: Russia – Europe is an important component of the political situation in contemporary Europe and the world. This also applies to Poland. Today, due to the war in Ukraine, this is an extremely topical subject matter. This is a question about Russia. Two positions have been formed in the tradition of culture and journalism. According to one, Russia is totalitarian country and an aggressor. And this is the „Russian soul”; Putin today. Russia is not changing. This means that there can be no acceptance of this state of affairs. It can only respond to „strenght” with „force”. According to the second position, such thinking means staying in the world of stereotypes and myths. There is no such thing as „Russian soul”. This means that Russia is not Putin. There is „Russia as such”. And we need to cooperate with this country. It is an anti-Putin opposition (M. Khodorkowsky, G. Kasparov, A. Navalny…). And today – as it was in the past – Poland remains in the circle of this dilemma.

John Paul II in his teaching about Poland and patriotism defines Poland as a “special mother”. It is due to the fact that the Pope places Polish patriotism within the broad perspective of pondering upon human being, his/her dignity and the freedom. Pope’s encyclicals are the starting point of this conceptualization. Here the encyclical Veritatis splendor (the Splendor of Truth) by John Paul II released in 1993 deserves the special attention. Its basic thesis is : a man should base his collective life upon permanent, objective values; upon “the truth”. Modern Europe is the ethical individualism; subjectivism and relativism. It is characterized by the “crisis of the sense”. The Polish culture is expressed by the assumption of the existence of permanent values, which should be the foundation of human community. Europe needs Poland. According to John Paul II Polish patriotism is the “love” towards something that constitutes the essence of its culture, its message. And this means that it is for each of us a “special mother”. However, this message has a universal value.

One of the main problems of the European culture is to answer the question connected with relations between capitalism, democracy and the world of values. In the modern world, an autonomous and independent individual, as a participant of the exchange and the market, becomes a source of values. As J. Locke and A. Smith state this does not mean that there are no values in the world we live in. The same thought demonstrates M. Novak, thus this is the spirit of the democratic capitalism.

Abstract: The Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato si’ Continuation of the Church’s teaching or an attempt at a new perspective? The encyclical Laudatio si’ is the first social encyclical letter by Pope Francis. Its key reference point is the apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium promulgated in 2013. In the latter, the pope presents four „principles”: 1. „Time is greater than space”; 2. „Unity prevails over conflict”; 3. „Realities are more important than ideas”; 4. „The whole is greater than the part.” The encyclical Laudatio si’ in its entirety is devoted to ecology. However, by ecology the pope means the „integral ecology.” And this is where the previously mentioned principles apply. Following the footsteps of St. Francis, the contents of the encyclical offers new perspectives to the teaching and praxis of the Catholic Church. Key words: encyclical, ecology, integral ecology, Catholic Church

Abstrakt: Nowożytność i chaos współczesności. Wedle autora Nowej nauki polityki nowożytność, będąca negacją idei myśli starożytnej (Platon) i chrześcijaństwa, to świat gnozy. Słowa kluczowe: nowożytność, chaos, „nowej nauki polityki”, świat wartości, Eric Voegelin    Abstract: Modern era and the chaos of the present day. In the context of the 20th century totalitarianisms’ it is a fundamental issue. Eric Voegelin’s idea has been enrolled in this range of problems. Gnosis is the belief that man is able to organize collective life on his own, outside the world of objective values. This way of thinking, according to Voegelin, gave historical evil: fascism, communism and liberalism. The New Science of Politics is to rely on reference to the thoughts of pre-modern era.
