This article is based on the initial results of my fieldwork in the Central Depression of Chiapas as part of the archaeological project Along the Path of the Lizards. Archaeolo-gy and History in the Central Depression of Chiapas. The ravines and hills of Acala during the Late Postclassic (1300 AD - 1524) and the sixteenth century". The aim of this article is to present some new data on the archaeology and history of the Central Depression of Chiapas and to examine old problems in the light of new data, especially those obtained during the surface reconnaissance work.

El presente artículo surge a partir de los primeros resultados del trabajo de campo que llevé a cabo en la Depresión Central de Chiapas, en el marco del proyecto arqueológico Por el Sendero de los lagartos. Arqueología e Historia en la Depresión Central de Chiapas. Las barrancas y lomeríos de Acala durante el Posclásico Tardío (1300 d.C.-1524) y el Siglo XVI. El objetivo de este artículo es exponer algunos datos novedosos sobre la arqueología e historia de la Depresión Central de Chiapas y examinar viejas problemáticas bajo la luz de nuevos datos, en especial aquellos generados durante los trabajos de reconocimiento de superficie.
