The purpose of this article is to present an image of the New World in Old Polish dictionaries, from the sixteenth to mid-nineteenth century, that is, up to date of the publication of the second edition of the "Dictionary of the Polish language" by Samuel Linde. The first part of the article is devoted to the discussion of Latin, French, English, Italian, and Portuguese dictionaries, from the perspective of americanismos and the "American topics". Second, a substantial part of the text, is an analysis of Polish dictionaries, which reveals how the Polish lexicography adopted an image of nature and the inhabitants of the New World.

Nikolaus Federmann, a German adventurer and conquistador, is a significant figure in the history of Klein-Venedig, the concession of Venezuela Province to the Welser banking family by Charles I of Spain. Among the German commanders (Ambrosio Alfinger, Felipe de Utre, Jorge de Espira) Nikolaus Federmann was undoubtedly the most colorful character, and his fate are reminiscent of Chivalric novels’ heroes and adventurous journeys. In the article, I have outlined the silhouette of Federmann based on the Chronicles and archive documents, focusing on his first expedition to Venezuela, which German Conquistador described in Indianische Historia.
