According to Eugenio Coseriu, translation should be seen as a form of "cultural otherness", a mutual exchange of values. The present report is a contrastive study of the Romanian translations of Eugenio Coseriu's conference Time and Language (“Tempo e linguaggio”). Our translation from Italian into Romanian was preceded by Ana Covaciu’s translation and by comparing them we can notice many similarities, but also some inadvertencies. The aim of the contrastive analysis of the two translations is to see if the decisions we took at that time for the equivalences were correct or still are thanks to the second revision. The translation into Romanian of Coseriu’s text was a challenge above all because it was a linguistic text which could pose serious problems regarding the linguistic and semantic terminology equivalence. The contrastive study was carried out at a lexical and semantic level, at a morphosyntactic level and also at an orthographic level.

The term doppiaggese refers to a dubbing variety of Italian influenced by the original English source language of American films. According to some linguists, this variety of language seems unnatural and artificial comparing to the Italian target language. The doppiaggese variant appeared when it was not possible to transpose the source language into the target language during the process of dubbing because the synchronism between the lip of the movie actors and the words spoken by the dubber is no longer achieved. This happens when the basic techniques of lip synchronism, such as managing the recitative pauses between words or lengthening and/or shortening the sounds of a word, are not able to support the simultaneity of dubbing. As a consequence, many lexical and semantic calques are made on the source language. Doppiaggese is a variety of the Italian language that normally should not have to do with professional dubbing because the large number of specialized people who works in the dubbing industry has the specific requirements to achieve a transposition that is as good as perfect.

Even though we have not been able to establish an exact chronology of the Romanian enclisis or the Italian proclisis of the definite article, this innovative linguistic fact has certainly aroused and will continue to arouse interest in many linguists. The fact on which most linguists agree is the demonstrative pronominal origin of the definite article. The different placement in Romanian compared to Italian makes the definite article a linguistic element characterized by its own grammatical and geographical specificity.
