Artykuł omawia relacje dotyczące XIX-wiecznej ewolucji historii idei i jej związków z badaniami literackimi. Przez cały wiek trwała debata, czy filologia, filozofia i historia są osobnymi naukami humanistycznymi, czy też stanowią elementy większej całości zwanej potocznie „humanistyką” lub „naukami humanistycznymi”. Idea jako pojęcie związane z filozofią poznania stała się jednym z głównych obszarów sporu. W artykule proponuję interpretację eseju „Milczenie” Cypriana Norwida jako tekstu, który został zaplanowany przez poetę, by włączyć się w ten spór.

The article examines the 19th century evolution of history of ideas and its relatedness to literary studies. The debate whether philology, philosophy, and history are autonomous humanistic disciplines or they make up a part of what is informally referred to as “humanities” or “humanistic sciences” lasted for the whole century. The idea, seen as a notion connected with philosophy of cognition, became the central part of the debate. In the present paper I suggest an interpretation of Cyprian Norwid’s essay “Milczenie” (“Silence”) as a text designed by the poet to enter this debate.

W recenzji omówiono książkę Jany-Kathariny Mende „Das Konzept des Messianismus in der polnischen, französischen und deutschen Literatur der Romantik. Eine mehrsprachige Konzeptanalyse” (2020), będącą monograficznym ujęciem koncepcji mesjanizmu w prelekcjach paryskich Adama Mickiewicza. Refleksje dotyczące mesjanizmu w prelekcjach pozwalają autorce na zaprezentowanie własnej koncepcji funkcjonowania mesjanizmu w trzech językach, polskim, francuskim i niemieckim, w których ukazały się Mickiewiczowskie wykłady.

The review discusses Jana-Katharina Mende’s book “Das Konzept des Messianismus in der polnischen, französischen und deutschen Literatur der Romantik. Eine mehrsprachige Konzeptanalyse” (“The Concept of Messianism in Polish, French, and German Romantic Literature”, 2020), a monographic depiction of the concept of Messianism in Adam Mickiewicz’s Paris lectures. The reflections included into the lectures allow to present the author’s own concept of Messianism functioning in Polish, French, and German—the languages in which the lectures were published.

W artykule podjęto próbę przemyślenia relacji Adama Mickiewicza z Weltliteratur i wykazano, które konteksty dotyczące idei sformułowanej po raz pierwszy przez Johanna Wolfganga Goethego odgrywały szczególną rolę w twórczości polskiego romantyka. Na przykładzie „Prelekcji paryskich”, zwłaszcza pięciu pierwszych wykładów, przyjrzano się temu, w jaki sposób Mickiewicz posługiwał się literaturą światową, i omówiono kontekst toczących się debat słowianoznawczych.

The author of the paper attempts to reconsider the relations between Adam Mickiewicz and Weltliteratur and discloses the factors referring to the idea, formulated for the first time by Johann Wolfgang Goethe, that played special function in the Polish poet’s output. As based on Paris lectures, particularly the first five of them, the author insights into the way in which Mickiewicz takes advantage of world literature and discusses the context of Slavonic studies debate that took place at that time.

Autor recenzji podkreśla znaczenie niedawno opublikowanej książki, która umożliwia zaznajomienie się polskim czytelnikom z nieznanymi dotąd rozprawami, recenzjami i esejami niemieckiego filozofa. Pisma te przyciągają uwagę naukowców z różnych kręgów badawczych i krajów europejskich. Maciej Junkiert podejmuje temat recepcji Herdera w polskiej historiografii i studiach literackich i stawia pytanie, czy publikacja wydana w 2024 roku stwarza szansę na nowe otwarcie w badaniach nad polsko-niemieckimi relacjami intelektualnymi na przełomie XVIII i XIX wieku oraz tymi późniejszymi z XIX stulecia.

The paper assesses the anthology entitled “Early Aesthetic Writings” by Johann Gottfried Herder. The reviewer stresses the significance of the recently published book that offers the Polish receivers insight into the unknown to this day treatises, reviews, and essays by this German philosopher, whose writings attract attention of scholars of various research circles and from many European countries. Maciej Junkiert also takes up the issue of Herder’s reception in the Polish historiography and literary studies as well as formulates a question whether the 2024 publication offers a chance for a new opening in research on Polish-German intellectual relations at the turn of the 18th and the 19th c., as well as on those of the late 19th c.
