Volunteering in pastoral care is not simply an optional activity; it is a vital expression of the Church’s missionary nature and the corresponsibility of all the baptized. Although volunteering has its limits – conditioned by personal motivation, availability of time, and the environment – it also offers unique and irreplaceable opportunities for joy, evangelization, community building, and effective pastoral outreach. The development of a supportive environment, intentional accompaniment, and the fostering of authentic missionary conversion are essential tasks for the Church’s leadership at every level. When rightly understood and supported, volunteering becomes a living sign of the Church’s journey toward a more synodal, missionary future, where every believer is invited to bear the Gospel to the world.
