W artykule zaprezentowano poglądy badaczy na muzealnictwo książki, definicje i funkcje muzeów w polskiej literaturze naukowej, oraz podkreślono znaczenie placówek muzealnych w procesie zachowania dziedzictwa kulturowego narodu. Szczególny akcent położony został na zagadnienia związane z książką jako specyficznym obiektem muzealnym. Analizie rozpoznawczej poddano państwowe muzea książki oraz prywatne inicjatywy kolekcjonerów.

The article presents the opinions of researchers, definitions and functions of museums in Polish scholarly literature and emphasises the significance of museum institutions in the process of preserving the cultural heritage of people. Special emphasis is put on the problems associated with the book as a peculiar museum object. The appraisal-related analysis covers not only state museums of books but also private initiatives of collectors.
