An innovative tool called ‘life space mapping’ is used by multicultural career counsellors in career guidance. It is employed in a counselling process for counsellees such as refugees, migrants and asylum-seekers in order to help them to value their biographical learning (formal, non-formal and informal) in a lifelong process of constructing their careers. This counsellor`s method of working is based on multicultural counselling which respects life experiences and cultural values of the client. The practice of basic principles of this method includes: a cooperation and communication through dialogue between a counsellor and a client, comprehensive and metaphorical thinking, meaning-making and active participation of the help seeker. The main goal of workshops, conducted in Greece and Hungary, was to discuss and analyse the various counsellees` biographical components (biographical symbols, biographical life span of time divided in past, present, future) which influence effective vocational choices of clients from different cultures. The workshops were realised in a combination of working on one’s own, play group, common and personal reflection. In addition, participants had an opportunity of looking through their biographies as a counsellor, including intercultural exchange with other members of that workshop.

The article presents some characteristics of the tool 6Ps which can be employed by multicultural counsellors in their counselling work with adult counsellees originating from different cultural environment (e.g. immigrants). The author examines two educational cases from Patras (Greece) and Bled (Slovenia), during which training sessions were performed with students of counselling and with counsellors-practitioners. The sessions have been focused on the essence of this tool and the methodology of its application. On the basis of author’s own research, two different educational cultures are presented: teaching (Bled) and learning (Patras), and also hidden mechanisms, processes and conditions for their existence.

A modern human being is more and more often aware that they have to come to terms with the ambiguity and multidimensional character of ‘events’ in their own biography. However, a new ‘organisation’ of one’s life requires to undertake actions and educational efforts to ‘tell’ one’s own biography, which is accompanied by active formulation (but also solution) of problems. The counsellors who work with people coming from other cultural areas than they do, seek methods and tools which will be effective in the work with ‘non-traditional’ people who seek guidance. Such a possibility ‘is provided’ by the method of live space map, which may be treated not only as a method of work in the counselling field, but also as a way of acquiring biographic knowledge in the process of learning. The educational episodes which appear in life and problems connected thereto are treated as challenges and should be considered by individuals in the category of educational chances.

The international seminar Career management skills, which was organized by Euroguidance Network, took place on 22-23 May 2012 in Bled, Slovenia. The topic of the seminar this year was focused on the needs of reflexive construction and effective use of the knowledge about career counselling which is attaining special meaning in the light of the global risk society and expands the mobility not only of the Europeans, but also of the people from the other continents. Lectures and workshops took place during the meeting, and also there was exchange of methodical materials which were brought by the participants from their native countries. The offered content of the seminar by experts from Slovakia, Poland, Slovenia, Hungary, Austria, Germany, and Croatia concerned the needs of grounding and establishing of practice of career counselling in the wide theoretical context of counselling studies, as well as understanding of the hidden mechanisms for career construction used by people in a liquid and dynamically changing reality. The seminar plays crucial role in the process of creating European collaboration in the field of counselling practice. The knowledge of the systemic, institutional, financial problems allows for creating a base for solidarity, mutual understanding and acceptance of its own limits, which helps for shared support of each other in the carrying out of common projects.

The author of the article discusses stages of the learning trajectory of emigrants who go through a period of floating. The experience of emigration, called a trajectory of floating (biography of floating), is not identical with the trajectory of suffering (F. Schütze). Introduced by A. Bron, the category of floating redefines this experience as emancipation and an educational process of learning. Studying the ways and methods of emigrants’ learning may help organise intercultural counselling for the already settled foreigners, newcomers from other cultures as well asthose planning to emigrate.

The article is an attempt to shed light on the problems identified by the researcher in the transnational environment of the second-generation Polish emigrants in Germany. The author begins by explaining the notion of a ‘problem’ in psychology and counselling studies, and the characteristics of the second generation of Polish emigrants in Germany. Interpreting the biographical narratives of emigrants, she shows the problems with which they struggled in the transnational space and the areas in which they needed counselling support. The author also refers to institutions offering counselling support. In conclusion, the article highlights growing demand for this type of support in various generations, communities and migrantcommunities.

Article presents a learning process Poles living in emigration in England. Analyzing the fates of the post-WWII emigrants studied, it is possible to differentiate three waves of emigration to England. The first wave is composed of emigrants of a political nature (after 1945). They arrived to England along with the army of General Władysław Anders. The second wave is emigrants from the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Their exits were related to the political and economic situation in Poland, as well as with ongoing political events. The third wave has been named 2004+. Among this group we may differentiate those who decided to leave following Poland’s accession to the European Union and the simultaneous opening of the labour markets of Great Britain and Ireland. By writing this paper, a goal was to show the perceptions of learning by the narrators themselves in the framework of a division of emigrants into three waves, as well as to distinguish shared areas of learning in each wave of emigration and to show the biographical knowledge of the interlocutors. With the results of the investigations as a point of reference I have used the category of ‘floating’ (authored by A. Bron) which shows the specificity of adults’ learning in emigration. In the analysis of the biographical stories of the emigrants I present the manner in which the learning of narrators of the first, second and third waves undergoes modification in a "floating" situation, leading to their adopting various attitudes from disorganized to controlling, to the making of (irrational or rational) choices and decisions and to the changes in their identities.

Based on grounded theory (Anselm Strauss and Barney glaser), this research project aims at interpreting narrative interviews with Polish female emigrants subjected to circular migration and presents transnational counseling situations. Author refers to various theoretical concepts such as transnationality and its types (linear, resource-based, reactive) as well as to counseling situations described as cooperation, battle (game), “bought friendship”, according to the classification elaborated by Alicja Kargulowa. In the concluding part, the author presents the ambiguous, complex, multidimensional dynamics of transnational counseling situations.

Autorka w swoim projekcie badawczym, wykorzystując teorię ugruntowaną (Anselma Straussa i Barneya glasera) w interpretacji wywiadów narracyjnych Polek emigrantek praktykujących migrację cyrkulacyjną, przedstawia transnarodowe sytuacje poradnicze.

In the article, the author presents the history of Polish re-emigrants and their children, who after several years of stay in London are re-organizing their life in Poland. By interpreting the narrative interview and using a case study (according to Stake’s conception), it shows that the situation of cultural change is particularly relevant to the adaptation of children in school space. Parents describe children’s school experiences in detail (learning difficulties, tensions, cultural differences). They also show their own struggles to re-root in their home country. Their return is paid for with losses and doubts, it requires involvement in the education of children and developing ways of dealing with re-emigration

Interpretując wywiad narracyjny i wykorzystując studium przypadku (według koncepcji Stake’a), pokazuje, że sytuacja zmiany kulturowej dotyczy szczególnie adaptacji dzieci w przestrzeni szkolnej.
