The paper makes comparison between two dramas: Sułkowski by Stefan Żeromski and Józef Sułkowski by Roman Brandstaetter from a few points of view. In the aspect of the history of literature, the work by Żeromski was treated by Brandstaetter as a proto-type. From the dramaturgic point of view, the construction of Brandstaetter’s play is more consistent. In the aspect of history, both dramas can be discussed as the examples of the specific ability to create legends possesed by literature. In the conclusion the ex-pectations and intentions of both authors are compared with the stage realization of their dramas.
