The article has been divided into two parts. The first introduces and presents M.A. Krąpiec’s metaphysical „net” as the proper and adequate toolkit to investigate philosophical (resp. metaphysical topics). The second part of the article deals with an attempt to investigate the crux topic for metaphysics what a substantial (i.e. identical) mode of being is. This is based on the article Metaphysics from Encyclopaedia Britannica”. Due to the plurality of Encyclopaedia’s editions, the paper has been limited merely to its first edition (1771). To conduct the investigation, the „metaphysical net” has been executed and incorporated into it.
