The activating methods, so popular recently, not only enable deeper connection of the didactic process with the current trends in the culture, but also support the development of students’ overall skills and more importantly, their subject-relevant abilities. The Placard technique, which accompanies numerous activating methods within the general didactics, can widely be used in the Polish language teaching in secondary schools (liceums as well as technical school). The sub-techniques such as the diagram and the proper placard introduced into the Polish language lessons will stimulate the students’ creativity. The diagram, operating with the word and the simple drawing may serve as data acquisition device which helps arrange the hierarchy of the acquired information, as well as analyses and synthetises the main problem. The proper Placard, which takes advantage of the icon communication, enables better visualization of students’ thoughts and feelings. Innumerate modules of the particular lessons have been thoroughly discussed as far as the National Curriculum for secondary schools is concerned and the general conclusions on the weak and strong points of the suggested methods have been drawn.
