Sdílená intencionalita mezi filosofií a vědou

A key process of adaptation that distinguished humans from their animal relatives was, according to Michael Tomasello, the development of so-called shared intentionality. Tomasello borrowed this term from the philosophical tradition, above all from the work of John Searle. Philosophy, however, examines shared intentionality in a substantially different context than Tomasello, which raises the question: In his understanding of shared intentionality, does Tomasello in truth consistently set out from the pertinent philosophical tradition? In the text I will try to analyze the concept of shared intentionality in both Tomasello and contemporary philosophers (especially Searle) – and then consider to what extent they agree. Contrarily, I will also try to define in what ways they differ from each other.

Klíčovým adaptačním procesem, který podle Michaella Tomasella odlišil člověka od jeho zvířecích příbuzných, byl rozvoj tzv. sdílené intencionality. Tento pojem si Tomasello vypůjčil z filosofické tradice, především z díla Johna Searla. Filosofie ovšem sdílenou intencionalitu zkoumá v podstatně jiném kontextu než Tomasello, pročež se nabízí otázka: Vychází Tomasello ve svém chápání sdílené intencionality skutečně konzistentně z relevantní filosofické tradice? V textu se pokusím analyzovat pojetí sdílené intencionality jak u Tomasella, tak u současných filosofů (především u Johna Searla) – a následně pak posoudit, do jaké míry se shodují. Pokusím se také definovat, v čem se tato pojetí naopak rozcházejí.

Ein Schlüsselprozess der Anpassung, der laut Michael Tomasello den Menschen von seinen tierischen Verwandten unterschied, war die Entwicklung der sog. geteilten Intentionalität. Diesen Begriff entlieh Tomasello von der philosophischen Tradition, insbesondere aus dem Werk John Searls. In der Philosophie wird die geteilte Intentionalität jedoch in einem wesentlich anderen Kontext untersucht als bei Tomasello, weshalb sich die Frage anbietet: Geht Tomasello in seinem Verständnis der geteilten Intentionalität tatsächlich konsistent von der relevanten philosophischen Tradition aus? Im vorliegenden Text versuche ich, die Auffassung der geteilten Intentionalität sowohl bei Tomasello, als auch bei den heutigen Philosophen (insbesondere bei John Searl) zu analysieren – und anschließend zu beurteilen, inwieweit diese Auffassungen übereinstimmen. Gleichfalls versuche ich zu definieren, in welchen Punkten diese Auffassungen auseinandergehen.

In the monograph A Natural History of Human Morality (Cambridge, Mass., Harvard University Press 2016) Michael Tomasello produced an original theory of the evolution of morality. Morality is, in his view, a specifically human form of co-operation which is supported by specifically psychological processes. His aim is to describe three types of morality and explain how and why they were able to develop in the course of anthropogenesis from the rudimentary morality of empathy. In the first part of this review study we describe how Tomasello imagines this process. In the second part we focus criticallly on some controversial points of his account.

In seiner Monographie A Natural History of Human Morality (Cambridge, Mass., Harvard University Press 2016) entwickelte Michael Tomasello eine originelle Theorie zur Evolution der Moral. Die Moral ist laut Tomasello eine spezifisch menschliche Form der Zusammenarbeit, die durch spezifische psychologische Prozesse unterstützt wird. Sein Ziel ist es, drei Arten von Moral zu beschreiben und zu erläutern, wie und warum diese sich im Laufe der Anthropogenese aus der rudimentäreren Moral des Mitleids entwickeln konnten. Im ersten Teil der vorliegenden Rezensionsstudie wird beschrieben, wie sich Tomasello diesen Prozess vorstellt. Im zweiten Teil wird bestimmten kontroversen Punkten seiner Interpretation kritische Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet.
