Background. The article presents the results of quantitative and qualitative research on the structure of the boards of regional tourist organizations in Poland. The author also tried to identify the catalogue of factors in the organization boards environment that condition the level of the organization operating effectiveness. Material and methods. The desk research method was applied in the study. The conclusions were reached with the use of the comparative analysis method and the deduction method. Conclusions. The study revealed a number of regularities, but also many disparities among the structures of regional tourist organization boards, which could have a crucial impact on the effectiveness of the organizations.

The article analyzes the state of local tourism organizations (LOT) in Lower Silesia against the tourism system in Poland. It pointed to the current problems in the field of sustainability of organizational structures, such as lack of standard procedures in cooperation with the local community and business, limited financing possibilities due to the adopted ineffective fundraising model, current human resources, and lack of strategic planning and objectives of local tourism policy. This picture of functioning and efficiency of the LOT in the region is a reflection of the situation of other LOTs in Poland, which results from the adopted, but not fully implemented, model of the 3-step system of tourism promotion called POT–ROT–LOT. The author presents his idea of creating a paradigm shift and transforming LOTs to increase the efficiency of tourism promotion through building local structures in counties and around major urban areas, maintaining the status quo of legal norms of the organization but developing the internal governance structure and adapting it today competitive market, gradually transforming LOT so as to make it match the Destination Management Company model and noninstitutional types of organizations, making legal modifications to the statutes, and introducing incentives such as loyalty programs, setting short- and long-term statutory and economic goals, building financial stability through diversification of income sources, and developing the idea of partnerships with other LOTs and ensuring the full representation of the local business and tourism industry in the organization’s structure, as a guarantee of sustainable tourism development, reduction in competitiveness (conflicts of interests) and the negative impact of the local community.

The paper presents the results of a qualitative and quantitative research concerning selected aspects of tourist attractiveness of five various tourist attractions, as well as the scale of their commercialization and adaptation to modern tourist service. The research was carried out as a questionnaire for tourism professionals. The results prove vast disproportions among the selected attractions with reference to the adaptation level for realizing the tourist functions. The disproportions involved the tourist attractiveness, tourist management, scale of commercialization, and the techniques and tools applied in advertising aimed at selected tourist market segments.

The article presents the image of the Polish tourism brand as perceived by foreign tourists. The survey conducted in Venice (Italy) shows that Poland does not have a strong tourism brand, and the knowledge of foreigners about Poland is very poor and stereotypical. The authors attempted to identify the key issues that influenced the Polish tourism image in the context of the needs connected with the commercialization of Poland’s tourism potential.

The issue of the article refers to the modern forms of cooperation between universities of tourist profile and tourist sector organizations. Recently, the cooperation has increased, therefore the paper focuses on several organizations of the tourist sector, significant for universities of tourist profile in the context of shaping and maintaining relationships. Particularly important is the cooperation with the business sector, public administration, associations and organizations operating in the tourism industry. The purpose of the article is to explain the management of relationships between universities and tourist sector organizations, and to articulate the benefits that can be achieved by universities of tourist profile. The paper is based on the literature. In addition, the authors applied the method of deduction and observation.
