The aim of this article is to analise Mário Soares’ s leadership, who was Portuguese president between 1986 and 1996. President M. Soares’s leadership is considered based on Margaret G. Hermann’s thoery about leadership (background of the leader and his personality are the most important variables in leadership). In the article you will find some basic information about M. Soares’s ealier political experince before he bacame the president and circumstances of his presidency. It is written here about his political convictions, style of political activity and his motivation to be president.
