Since the 1920’s the air forces have constituted one of the basic components of the army. The aviation doctrines are, in turn, a set of basic (strategic and sometimes operational) rules of their use. With the course of the time, these rules have significantly evolved, reaching the zenith of its possibilities during the cold war – then the global confl ict on the line NATO and Warsaw Pact was to be solved mainly thanks to the air forces. Their task was to obtain (fight for) an advantageous situation for the army and the navy in order to carry out their combat operations.

Siły powietrzne od lat dwudziestych stanowią jeden z podstawowych komponentów armii. Doktryny powietrzne są natomiast zbiorem podstawowych (strategicznych, niekiedy operacyjnych) zasad ich użycia. Z biegiem lat zasady te znacznie ewoluowały, apogeum swoich możliwości osiągając w czasie zimnej wojny – wtedy to bowiem globalny konfl ikt na osi NATO-Układ Warszawski miał się rozegrać w ogromnym stopniu dzięki siłom lotniczym. Ich zadaniem miało być uzyskanie (wywalczenie) korzystnej sytuacji dla wojsk lądowych oraz marynarki wojennej do wykonania swoich operacji bojowych.
