At the end o f the fourteenth century Krewo Castle was the scene o f the signing o f the Polish-Lithuania Union act. The author recalls historical facts associated with the object, describes the destruction o f its walls during the nineteenth century and at the beginning o f the twentieth century, and discusses preservation conducted after 1930 upon the initiative o f Prof. Stanislaw Lorentz. At present, the former castle o f the duchy o f Krewo is a ruin. A Polish-Belarussian research-scientific mission, established in the castle in 1991, defined the range o f work connected with the protection and possible partial reconstruction o f a fragment o f the building. Unfortunately, transformations o f the political system in Belarus interrupted earlier planned activity.
