Teaching Polish language and culture to foreigners, we attempt to prepare our learners to the possibly most comfortable life in new culture. We explain, among others, several historical and political topics, which take part in building our national identity. These elements are present in the Polish discourse and Polish cultural paradigms as myths and imaginations, surrounded by meanings and interpretations. This article consists of several thoughts of an experienced teacher who builds a brand of Poland through the instruction blending historical and political elements in the pop-cultural context.

Ucząc języka polskiego i wiedzy o Polsce cudzoziemców, staramy się przygotować studentów do w miarę komfortowego życia w kulturze docelowej. Wyjaśniamy m.in. wiele kwestii historycznych i politycznych, budujących naszą tożsamość narodową. Funkcjonują one w polskim dyskursie jako szereg mitów, wyobrażeń, obudowanych znaczeniami, interpretacjami, są uporządkowane w konkretne paradygmaty kultury. Ulegają wpływom kultury popularnej, co znacznie potęguje ich oddziaływanie. W niniejszym tekście zostanie przedstawiony szereg przemyśleń doświadczonego nauczyciela, budującego markę Polski, uczącego nt. polskiej racji stanu, wprowadzającego na lektoratach zagadnienia historyczne, politologiczne, w popkulturowym kontekście.

Polish+. Program nowych studiów polskich na Uniwersytecie Syczuańskim w Chengdu

The first university programme in Polish studies in China was launched already in the 1950s. The foundations laid by a few generations of specialists in Polish studies from Beijing Foreign Studies University permit the development of successive programmes in Polish studies in other Chinese academic centres. They use the support of the PRC government, which has been implementing a dynamic foreign policy addressed to the Central and Eastern European countries for a few years now. One of the new centres offering innovative programmes in Polish studies, which are combined with the economic and international path, is the Sichuan University in Chengdu, supported by the University of Warsaw. This paper describes the formation of the Polish+ programme in Chengdu and presents the details related to the curriculum of the studies, which inspires other Chinese higher education institutions to introduce similar specialties in cooperation with the greatest Polish higher education institutions.

The following text is not only a contribution to the history of teaching Polish as a foreign language in Warsaw and Lodz, but also further historical research on Polish glottodidactics, especially in the first years after the Second World War, and in the interwar period. Not only does it mark the 70th anniversary of University of Lodz’s center, but also almost 100 years of the first Polish class held for foreigners at the revived University of Warsaw.

Niniejszy tekst to przyczynek do historii warszawskiej i łódzkiej glottodydaktyki polonistycznej, a także kontynuacja badań historycznych nauczania języka polskiego jako obcego, zwłaszcza związanych z wczesnym okresem powojennym, z odniesieniami do sytuacji w międzywojniu. Okazją jest nie tylko siedemdziesięciolecie ośrodka łódzkiego, ale także blisko sto lat, które upłynęły od otwarcia pierwszego na odrodzonym Uniwersytecie Warszawskim lektoratu języka polskiego dla cudzoziemców. Autor rewiduje dotychczasowe ustalenia, przedstawiane we wcześniejszych publikacjach, a także odkrywa nowe fakty dotyczące obu ośrodków.

Państwowe egzaminy certyfikatowe z języka polskiego jako obcego na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim (po 2015 roku)

Since June 2004, foreigners and Polish citizens residing permanently abroad may certify their command of Polish as a foreign language with a state certificate of language proficiency. In 2015, the PFL certification system underwent thorough changes. A new Państwowa Komisja do spraw Poświadczania Znajomości Języka Polskiego jako Obcego (State Commission for the Certifi cation of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language) was appointed, and entities authorised for conducting examinations were established in compliance with the amended laws. One of them is the University of Warsaw with the highest number of examinees taking the “new” certification examination to date at four levels (B1–C2). Interest in certifying one’s command of Polish is constantly growing and the aim of this paper is to present the scale of this undertaking in the Authorised Entity University of Warsaw against other examination centres.
