The beginning of Renaissance in Europe goes back to the 14th century. The territory of present Slovakia was observed by certain refinement of customs and the advancement of the culture life of the Hungarian society under the reign of Louis I the Great (1342-1382). The laudation of combativeness, the patronage of justice and truth, the protection of the weak and allegiance were the dominating themes of heroic and historic songs of minstrels, and the enchantment by beauty and by virtues were the themes of the songs of troubadours, trouveres, and minnesingers. They were a component part of noble and town culture in the 14th and even the 15th centuries. Humanistic society and literary circles contributed markedly to the elevation of culture and the shaping of the intellectual elite of Renaissance Hungary. These men built on the activity of the European 'Devotio moderna' movement, which stressed individualism and mysticism in religiousness, education and inner spiritual culture. In Christian rite the manner of preaching was determined in the past, but even there, novel features were introduced thanks to continuing development. 'Spis Prayer Sermons' (1479) have given an insight to the language and speech culture in communicating the message of God to the congregated believers in the Slovak language in Eastern Slovakia churches.

The authoress follows destiny of speech in medieval Ugrian land. The tradition of igrics from Great Moravia Empire never passed away. Their songs and performances kept up paganism culture of Great Moravia, stories about Svatopluk, speech and interpretation style in mind of aborigines and also they influenced knowledge and culture of ambient clans and nascent nations. The part of igrics came at courts of incoming Hungarian clans. In the 11th and 12th century there were two basic types of rhapsodists in our land - rustic narrators and igrics. Rustic narrator spread various historical stories, fairy tales, legends, funny stories and jokes - for edification and also for fun. He laid the foundation of future literary and prosaic array. Igric also presented historical events and legends, but he also filled them up with musical performance or the other sound processing - declamation, melody, rhythm, recital, song. His presentation achieved higher degree of art work and stylization than by narrator and that was the reason why igric stood at the beginning of mediaeval world poetry, esp. historical songs, verse epic, but also love lyric, or satiric poetry. Cathedral became another area for development of art recitation. In Middle Ages church was the place for sufficient large-scale diapason of literary interpretation genres. Their basic and assumed literary origin was Bible and the version was determined and co-created by mass and different sacral ceremonies. Besides devotions, also recitation of psalm and gradual, songs of hymns, antiphon and sequences, read stories, legends, homilies and other literary and musical form sounded in churches. They redounded later to the creation of liturgical drama - sacraments, Passion, Christmas and legend plays.
