During the period analysed in the elaboration the acceleration of system of draining off and purifying of sewage took place. Those changes are reflected in higher levels of indicators describing the discussed elements of ecological infrastructure. The length of the sewage system increased eight times and the number of their connections to the flat buildings – nine times. It is vital to remember, that despite the progress in ecological infrastructure, their level and availability are not sufficient to satisfy the existing needs. Only 22% of rural population utilizes the services of sewage treatment plants and 20.2% the services of sewage network.

Obszary wiejskie w Polsce odznaczają się, mimo postępu, jaki nastąpił w tym zakresie w ostatnich latach, znacznym niedorozwojem w wyposażeniu ich w takie podstawowe urządzenia, jak sieć kanalizacyjna i oczyszczalnie ścieków. Problem stanowią także dość znaczne dysproporcje między wyposażeniem w elementy infrastruktury ekologicznej obszarów wiejskich poszczególnych województw.

The analysis of studies presented in the paper allows to conclude that rural areas of Wielkopolskie voivodship are considerably differentiated as far as the distribution of economic infrastructure is concerned. Very high and high levels of infrastructure can be found in the counties in the central part of the voivodship around Poznań, its capital and two counties in the northern part of the voivodship. These counties have attained higher level of individually studied elements of infrastructure, as compared with the values calculated for rural areas in Poland in general. Counties of low and very low level of infrastructure occupy south-eastern part of the voivodship and vast areas located in its north-western part. In these areas not all inhabitants have access to gas-line system, sewage network and sewage treatment plants.

Ponad dwudziestoletni okres funkcjonowania w Polsce gospodarki rynkowej i ponad pięcioletni staż w strukturach Unii Europejskiej przyniosły znaczne przyspieszenie tempa rozwoju wyposażenia obszarów wiejskich w podstawowe elementy infrastruktury gospodarczej. Nadal jednak jest ono niewystarczające w stosunku do istniejących w tym zakresie potrzeb i charakteryzuje je znaczne zróżnicowanie przestrzenne, zarówno między województwami, jak i wewnątrz nich.
