The apostolic constitution Sapietnia christiana stipulates coherency and compatibility of the rules for ecclesiastical universities and other universities of the different ecclesiastical regions. The rules are fully implemented in the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow. The status of the university and its program have their sources both in the canonical rules and civil laws, and also in the rich scientific tradition of Krakow. The system of career advancement of the academic teachers embodies polish law. As a result, Polish authorities recognize the scientific titles and the scientific degrees granted by the university.

Apostolska konstytucja Sapientia christiana określa zgodność i przystawalność regulacji dotyczących kościelnych uniwersytetów i innych uniwersytetów z różnych rejonów kościelnych. Regulacje te są w pełni zastosowane do Papieskiego Uniwersytetu Jana Pawła II w Krakowie. Statut tego uniwersytetu i jego program mają swoje źródło zarówno w regulacjach kanonicznych, jak i ustawach państwowych, a także w bogatej naukowej tradycji Krakowa. System postępu kariery naukowej na tym uniwersytecie urzeczywistnia polskie prawo. W rezultacie władze polskie uznają tytuły naukowe i stopnie naukowe przyznawane przez ten uniwersytet.
The academic community of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow is constituted by: the authorities, the academic teachers, the lecturers, the administration office workers, and the students, of course. By the common and combined effort, they all must strive for continuation and development of the prominent past of the university. By doing this, the university will build up its future for the sake of the Church, Poland, and Europe.
The Church’s teaching concerning community between Herself and the College of Bishops, which was considerably broadened by Vatican II, is the foundation of their varied and diversified collaboration. This collaboration also manifests itself in such over diocesan institutions as Episcopal Conferences, regional convocations as well as the structure of the Church metropolis itself. The post-Vatican II legislation has reshaped and ascribed new tasks to all the above mentioned institutions. Owing to that fact they can be an efficient instrument of the over diocesan ministry.
