The article describes to civil officer's responsibilities in the process of contracting an ecclesiastical marriage referring to polish law. The article shows his role in establishing any obstacles in establishing a marriage, according to polish law. The head of civil office as an organ of public administration enjoys very wide competence in the process of contracting a marriage. He ratifies the marriage as a public government's authority.
