The article, being only a contribution to the more in-depth studies, describes the Katyn’s legacy in a quite uncommon manner, between literary studies, historiography, and cultural anthropology. The subject of the research is the literary activity of Polish officers who were held in NKVD’s POW camps. Apart from the general description of these works, particular attention was paid to the yearning and the experience of war appearing in them. The article constitutes an attempt at placing this poetry in literary history, regarding it as a part of lyric poetry written by soldiers. Additionally, it aims to qualify such works to the newly-distinguished category of war literature – the prisoner-of-war literature.
