W pracy przybliżone zostały początki zorganizowanej aktywności sportowej mieszkańców Nowego Tomyśla narodowości polskiej do 1939 roku.

This article describes the beginnings of sport in Nowy Tomysl up to 1939, focusing mainly on Polish-born people with reference to established earlier marksmen’s society and other German so-cieties. At the beginning of this paper the results of previous investigations were described together with the presentation of the town’s history and the research question. The primary focus is put on the interwar period during which the origins and later development of sports organisations could be observed. The important fact is that Polish people were in the minority in Nowy Tomysl in 1919 and that is why sport became one of the ways to demonstrate their national identity. Moreover, this article describes the societies which were geared towards physical development of individuals. This work also mentions the evolution of sport infrastructure and sports disciplines as well as the influence of sport societies on social relations at that time.
