Jacobus Handl Gallus' Inventory : New Suggestions about the Music Books Found in the Composer's Belonging

An inventory of the books possessed by the composer Jacobus Handl-Gallus was established in July 1591, a few days after the composer died. Today preserved at the Prague City Archive, this document has already been analysed and commented by many scholars, and from a rather early date. However, a number of details still deserved closer examination, concerning in particular the identification of the volumes contained in the inventory, and the link between these volumes and the composer’s own creation and personal history.

Studie Marca Desmeta je věnována osobnosti hudebního skladatele Jacoba Handla-Galla. Autor se zaměřuje na pozůstalostní inventář Handlových knih, který patří mezi vzácně dochované archivní dokumenty, jež se k němu váží. Po skladatelově smrti v červenci 1591 jej sepsal jeho bratr Georg Handl společně s třemi dalšími osobnostmi. Zde uváděné hudebniny autor textu zasazuje do kontextu nových poznatků o tiskařské dílně Gerlachově v Norimberku a pražské dílně Jiřího Nigrina.
