Les relations antiques étant tendcncieuses, l’évaluation des activités d’Antiochos IV Ephiphanes’ avère très difficile. Cela se rapporte également aux cérémonies organisées par Antiochos IV à Daphné en 166 av. J.C. jugées par Polibius comme la réponse du roi syrien face aux jeux d’Emilius Paulus à Amphipolis. Tout de même il faudrait prendre également en considération la suggestion que cette démonstration de la puissance des Seleucides concernait l’éxpedition d’Antiochos IV à l’Est au début de 165 av. J.C. La parade à Daphné a été initiée par la revue des unités militaires. L’information communiquée par Polibius concernant leur nombre et composition n’a pas pourtant été la base de l'interprétation des entreprises d’Antiochos IV en 166 av. J.C. L’année présentée à Daphné était différente par rapport à la structure de l’armée d’Antiochos III. L’analyse des differences en question permet de suggérer que le choix de l'infanterie dominée par les unités lourdes et la composition de la cavalerie ont été fait dans un but bien précis. Les corps participant aux riches cérémonies à Daphné se préparaient à partir vers l’Est.

The political, economic and social history of ancient Nikonion, a Greek city (polis) located on left bank of the the present day Dniester liman (at the norther border of the village Roxolany, Odessa obl.), can be study practically solely on the basis of material uncovered during archaeological excavations. Ancient, Greek and Roman written surces are few. Among them the description of the Lower Dniester region by Strabo deserves apecial attention. The text is the subject of reflections presented below.

Historia polityczna, gospodarcza i społeczna antycznego Nikonion, greckiego ośrodka (polis) zlokalizowanego na lewym brzegu współczesnego limanu Dniestru (na północnym krańcu wsi Roksolany, obl. Odessa), może być rozpatrywana praktycznie w oparciu o materiał uzyskany w trakcie prac archeologicznych. Źródła pisana, greckie i rzymskie, są nieliczne. Wśród nich na szczególną uwagę zasługuje opis regionu przekazany przez Strabona. Ocena tego tekstu jest przedmiotem rozważań zaprezentowanych w artykule.

An evidence of Greek settlement on the Lower Dniester region presented by written sources is very scanty. As the first should be treated Herodotus text. In reality Herodotus was more interested in the Scythian activity than in Greek one. Attention Herodotus directed to the history of king Scyles and his special relations with Olbia In the light of monetary evidence Scyles could be connected also with Nikonion.

Osadnictwo greckie w dolnym biegu rzeki Dniestr w źródłach antycznych opisane jest bardzo skromnie. Wczesną, bardzo ogólną informacje podał Herodot. Dalsze uwagi Herodota w pierwszej kolejności odnoszą się do Scytów. Dużą uwagę poświęcił on na historię scytyjskiego króla Skylesa, i jego szczególne związki z Olbią. Skyles, w świetle znalezisk monetarnych związany mógł być również z Nikonion.
